United Central Industrial Supply Company is seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Driver / Delivery Person to join our team. This role is critical to our operations, responsible for the safe pick-up, delivery, and transportation of merchandise while representing the company professionally. The position requires attention to detail, strong customer service skills, and the ability to thrive in both warehouse and field environments, including industrial and mining sites.
Essential Functions
Safely operate company vehicles, including various delivery trucks, and adhere to traffic and DOT regulations.
Load, unload, and secure merchandise, using equipment such as forklifts, knuckle boom cranes, dollies, chains, and straps.
Follow assigned delivery schedules and ensure timely deliveries to customers.
Obtain signatures and/or payments for delivered merchandise.
Report vehicle maintenance needs, accidents, damages, or unresolved customer complaints.
Maintain personal appearance and professional demeanor when interacting with customers.
Perform warehouse housekeeping, stock transfers, and inventory control.
Assist with counter sales, departmental duties, and other operational needs.
Follow prescribed safety regulations, including the use of PPE, and reinforce safety procedures.
Lift and carry objects of varying weight, climb trucks, ladders, and shelving, and stand or sit for extended periods.
Navigate a variety of work environments, including warehouses, industrial sites, and rough terrain.
Maintain confidentiality of company information, including customer lists, pricing, and financial data.
Attend required training courses, including safety and recertification sessions.
Experience, Education, and Skills
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with the proper class for assigned vehicle.
Minimum 1 year of commercial driving experience preferred.
General understanding of Department of Transportation regulations.
Ability to pass a company-administered driving test.
Strong communication skills; able to read, write, and comprehend delivery tickets, invoices, packing lists, transfer requests, and MSDS literature.
Physical ability to handle heavy merchandise, operate equipment, and work in varying temperatures and terrains.
Self-motivated, alert, dependable, and safety-conscious.
Ability to work independently and follow company procedures.
Work Schedule: Typically 7 AM – 5 PM Monday–Friday; weekends and overtime as required.
