This position is funded through the ED Bridge Peer Expansion Grant .
Provide peer recovery services to individuals and groups within Carilion Clinics inpatient settings outpatient clinics, emergency departments and throughout the surrounding communities.
- Maintain necessary documentation, patient health records and reports and records in appropriate files and database(s).
- Provide recovery education to service recipients for every phase of the recovery journey from utilizing knowledge of the stages of change and the recovery processes.
- Actively identify and support linkages to community resources (communities of recovery, educational, vocational, social, cultural, spiritual resources, mutual self- help groups, professional services, etc.) that support the recovering persons goals and interests. This will involve a collaborative effort including the recovering person, agency staff, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain contact by phone with recovering person after they leave the program to ensure their ongoing success and to provide re-engagement support in partnership with others in the agency if needed.
- Attend periodic meetings for identified service lines, treatment professionals, community coalitions or outreach activities as necessary.
- Provide Crisis Intervention Support as needed and as is defined within the Peer Recovery Specialist Scope of Practice.
- Provide both group and individual recovery coaching to individuals with mental illness and substance use disorders.
What We Require:
Education: High School Diploma/GED
Licensure, certification, and/or registration:Completion of Virginia Department of Behavioral Health Peer Recovery Specialist 72-hour Training.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Be in recovery from a mental illness and/or substance use disorder for two or more years. Must be comfortable with disclosure of own recovery story and willing to use it within the Peer Recovery Special Ethical Guidelines
