Description:

Samson, the worldwide leader in high performance cordage, is seeking an HSE Coordinator who will ensure the Ferndale facility complies with federal, state, and local safety regulations and for maintaining and supporting established environmental compliance programs. This role will focus primarily on workplace safety, accident prevention, and injury reduction, while also providing oversight and continuity for existing environmental systems in coordination with consultants and regulatory agencies.


The HSE Coordinator will champion a strong safety culture, support continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure compliance with Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (DOSH), OSHA, and Department of Ecology requirements. The HSE Coordinator will be responsible for practicing a high level of business ethics and professionalism while adhering to safety and quality guidelines in accordance with Samson strategy and core values.


Who You Are:

  • Knowledgeable of OSHA compliance, WA DOSH regulations, and state health and safety regulations.
  • Familiar with basic environmental compliance concepts such as stormwater management, runoff controls, waste handling, and spill prevention.
  • Able to coordinate with regulatory agencies and external consultants.
  • A people person with strong relationship-building skills at all levels in an organization of diverse individuals.
  • Proactive and able to take quick action to address safety and compliance concerns. 
  • An excellent communicator in both verbal and written forms with a high attention to details.
  • A proficient computer user with experience using Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new programs.
  • Organized and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. 
  • A creative problem solver with the ability to recommend and implement solutions.
  • Trustworthy and able to handle confidential and sensitive information.

What You’ll Do:

  • Champion a culture of safety by reinforcing safe behaviors, policies, procedures, and expectations at all organizational levels.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, WA DOSH, and all applicable regulatory agencies; support and participate in audits, inspections, and corrective action processes.
  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate conditions that could result in accidents, injuries, environmental impact, or financial loss by recommending and implementing programs, procedural changes, and corrective actions.
  • Act as a liaison between production, maintenance, and office teams to plan and execute safety- and environmental-related projects and initiatives.
  • Coordinate and facilitate safety training, inspections, drills, testing, and awareness programs.
  • Lead incident investigations and ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of all incident and near-miss reports.
  • Partner with third-party administrators to manage Workers’ Compensation claims, return-to-work programs, investigations, and hearings.
  • Develop, maintain, and report on safety metrics and regulatory documentation, including OSHA 300 logs and related records.
  • Maintain and manage SDS/MSDS systems and chemical inventories.
  • Support the development and maintenance of safety-related SOPs and continuous improvement/LEAN initiatives.
  • Maintain and support environmental compliance systems for the Ferndale facility, ensuring continuity, documentation accuracy, and audit readiness.
  • Coordinate with external consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies, including the Washington State Department of Ecology.
  • Collaborate with other Samson facilities to ensure continuity. 
  • Support compliance with storm water management, runoff controls, wastewater considerations, spill prevention, and waste handling practices.
  • Conduct or coordinate routine environmental inspections, internal audits, and documentation reviews.
  • Assist with environmental reporting, recordkeeping, permit-related documentation, and training to promote awareness of environmental procedures and best practices.

What You Should Have:

  • Education/Experience
    • Required: A High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of 3 years’ experience administering safety and environmental programs in an industrial setting. 
    • Desired: Secondary education and or accreditation in a field related to manufacturing, safety, or environmental compliance.

Compensation:

Targeted Hiring Wage: $33.00 - $38.50 per hour 

Hiring rate will depend on qualifications and experience.


Samson has established wage scales for all of our positions, which are based on a minimum and maximum. The targeted hiring rate above is set to allow for employee’s growth within the role. The full range for this position is  $30.78 - $46.17 per hour.
