Quality Control Supervisor
Location: Opelika, Alabama

Reports To: Plant Manager / Operations Manager
Position Summary
The Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for leading plant-level quality assurance and control processes to ensure all products meet internal standards and customer specifications. This role provides frontline leadership to quality technicians, partners closely with production, and drives continuous improvement in product quality, process discipline, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Quality Assurance & Product Compliance
- Ensure all finished goods and in-process materials meet defined quality standards and specifications
- Oversee inspection processes including incoming materials, in-process checks, and final product verification
- Approve or reject products based on quality standards and initiate containment actions for non-conforming material
- Maintain and enforce quality control plans, inspection procedures, and testing protocols
2. Floor-Level Quality Execution
- Provide hands-on support on the production floor to monitor quality at each stage of manufacturing
- Partner with production supervisors to identify and address quality issues in real time
- Conduct routine line audits and standardized work checks to ensure compliance
- Ensure measurement tools, gauges, and equipment are properly calibrated and used correctly
3. Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise, coach, and develop quality technicians and inspectors
- Establish clear expectations for inspection accuracy, documentation, and accountability
- Conduct daily direction setting and communicate quality priorities to the team
- Support cross-training to build bench strength and flexibility within the QC function
4. Non-Conformance & Corrective Actions
- Lead investigation of quality issues using root cause analysis (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone)
- Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to eliminate repeat defects
- Track and trend non-conformance data to identify systemic issues
- Ensure proper disposition of non-conforming materials (scrap, rework, containment)
5. Process Improvement & Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve product quality, reduce defects, and minimize waste
- Partner with operations to improve process controls and standard work
- Support implementation of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
- Drive accountability for quality-related KPIs (scrap, rework, first-pass yield, etc.)
6. Documentation, Reporting & Compliance
- Maintain accurate quality records, inspection reports, and audit documentation
- Ensure compliance with internal standards, customer requirements, and regulatory guidelines
- Prepare and deliver regular reporting on quality metrics and trends
- Support internal and external audits as needed
7. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Act as primary liaison between quality, production, engineering, and supply chain
- Support new product introductions, process changes, and customer requirements
- Work with suppliers to address incoming material quality issues
- Communicate quality expectations clearly across all levels of the organization
8. Safety & Compliance Leadership (New Section)
- Promote and reinforce a safety-first culture within the quality and production environment
- Ensure all quality team members adhere to safety procedures, PPE requirements, and safe operating practices
- Actively participate in incident investigations, supporting root cause analysis and corrective actions related to safety events
- Partner with EHS and operations to drive continuous improvement in safety performance
- Support plant compliance with OSHA and company safety programs, including audits and corrective actions
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred
- 5+ years of manufacturing experience, with at least 2 years in a quality-related role
- Prior supervisory or team lead experience strongly preferred
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of quality systems, inspection methods, and manufacturing processes
- Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and quality standards
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Effective communication and leadership capabilities
