Leidos is seeking a Distribution Engineering Supervisor in St. Petersburg, FL who is passionate about electric utility design engineering. We’re looking for someone who is dedicated to ensuring that every project, no matter how simple or complex, is of exceptional quality. You'll be working directly with clients to make sure that Leidos' reputation for high-quality work is always maintained. This position has remote-working capabilities, but candidates must be located within a commutable distance of St. Petersburg, FL in order to be considered, so we can provide support to our local utility customer as needed. The selected candidate(s) will be expected to be available for in-person meetings and assignments throughout the customer territory on an as-needed basis.
As a Distribution Engineer, you can expect to:
- Provide technical oversight, direction, and support for project teams. This will include work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems, URD, Make Ready, and Street Light projects, using customer GIS and Work Management systems
- Assist with supervision of design staff and QA/QC efforts for your team
- Collaborate with other design leads on broad client issues including schedule adherence and team quality control
- Review engineering design packages with clients; Perform functional tasks, planning, and/or customer follow-up
- Perform scope analysis of work assigned and maintain schedule adherence to advocate client priorities
- Oversee your team's engineering calculations such as: structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.
- Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements, assessing and developing large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, work permit development, easements, and ROW application
- Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and client design standards have been met.
What Sets You Apart (Background Requirements):
- 4+ years of prior relevant experience either working directly with an electric utility or an electric utility consulting company performing design engineering for electric distribution is required
- Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited educational institution; additional relevant experience/certifications may be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree
- Experience and demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC)
- Prior experience with structural analysis, guying calcs, cable pulling calcs, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault currents calculations.
- Ability to provide your own reliable transportation, as some local, customer-related travel may be anticipated (Job-related travel will be reimbursed at IRS-approved rates)
- Ability to demonstrate strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills
You Might Also Have Some previous experience with:
- Providing estimated costs, development of a BOM,
- MicroStation -performing Electrical Distribution design.
- Work management software and job estimating software.
- A Formal or informal leadership role
