Post Doctoral Associate
Med-Pharmacology and Chemical Biology - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (25001845)
The Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology is looking for a highly qualified candidate for the position of Post-Doctoral Research Associate. Our lab studies the role of ?-catenin in rare liver diseases, including porphyrias, which are caused by deficiencies in the heme biosynthesis pathway enzymes. Previously, we showed that suppression of ?-catenin led to lesser liver injury and biliary fibrosis in a mouse model of porphyria due to suppression of heme biosynthesis enzymes, which prevents accumulation of toxic protoporphyrins. We are actively seeking a postdoctoral associate to assess the mechanism by which inhibition of the Wnt/b-catenin signaling pathway provides protection from liver injury in a chemically-induced mouse model of porphyria, and whether b-catenin inhibition can prevent progression or provide protection in genetic mouse models of erythropoietic and acute intermittent porphyria.
The ideal candidate must have more than 4+ years of experience in biomedical research and expertise in pharmacology, pathology, or a closely related field, along with a PhD in biomedical science or a related discipline (e.g., pharmacology, pathology, physiology, cell biology, etc.). The candidate should be skilled in molecular genetic techniques, cell isolation and culture, biochemistry, transcriptomics, and advanced imaging techniques such as confocal and transmission electron microscopy, and must be experienced in using mouse models of disease. The candidate is expected to have excellent verbal/written communication skills, and at least one first-author publication in one of the areas mentioned above is recommended. The candidate must be capable of designing and conducting experiments independently as well as supervising and training other team members, and be highly motivated to learn new skills and tackle important scientific questions.
Salary is commensurate with experience. Applications from women and minorities are strongly encouraged.
