Leidos Dynetics’ Advanced Materials Department is seeking a passionate, detail-oriented problem-solver to serve as a Mechanical Engineer. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Leidos provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.
The Advanced Materials Department is a multi-disciplinary team that provides materials engineering expertise for every phase of a program. With backgrounds in materials science, chemistry/chemical engineering, physics, among others, the department has experience in executing a variety of efforts from R&D, to prototype development, to supporting design and build tasks for manufacturing. Beyond subject matter expertise, the department has the analysis equipment, multi-physics modelling capability, and experimental lab space to support activities ranging from proof-of-concept experimentation to manufacturing support.
Primary Responsibilities:
- As an integral member of the Advanced Materials Department, the successful candidate will balance multiple activities including but not limited to:
- Computer-Aided Design (CAD) modelling for hypersonic vehicles and manufacturing components
- Engineering analysis simulations utilizing third-party software to test the mechanical and thermal behavior of components under loading
- Solving complex engineering challenges with both analytical and experimental approaches.
- Collaborating with a team, management, and the department to gather requirements, analyze problems, and design solutions for software focused tasks.
Basic Qualifications:
- Resident of Central Indiana area or willing to relocate to work on-site in Crane, IN.
- U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Ability to work in both collaborative team environments and independently.
- Experience with CAD modelling using SolidWorks or CREO Parametric.
- Experience with analysis/coding software such as MATLAB or Python.
- Knowledge of basic manufacturing processes to help in the design of components.
- Ability to draw conclusions on necessary changes from simulation results.
- Interest & motivation in learning more about ground-breaking hypersonic technologies, including vehicle and Thermal Protection System (TPS) manufacturing.
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA in mechanical engineering, materials science, manufacturing engineering, or a related field from an ABET accredited university.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with manufacturing processes such as subtractive/additive manufacturing and casting.
- Experience with running simulations to analyze mechanical and/or thermal performance of aerospace vehicles.
- Familiarity with different numerical methods and their best use-cases.
