Jennifer Fukumae with Robert Half's Financial Services Division is partnering with a well-established private investment organization in Menlo Park seeking an Assistant Controller to join its growing accounting team.
The firm manages a diverse portfolio spanning venture capital, private investments, real estate, and alternative assets. This is an opportunity to take on a broad, hands-on accounting role with significant exposure to investment and property accounting, while working closely with senior finance leadership in a collaborative, long-term environment. The firm also embraces AI and automation to improve accounting processes and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee investment accounting activities, including capital transactions, investment reconciliations, valuations, and portfolio reporting.
Maintain investment records and accounting entries in NetSuite, following applicable GAAP and ASC 820 guidelines.
Manage accounting for multiple real estate and property management entities, including rental income, operating expenses, and vendor payments.
Support construction and development projects by monitoring project costs, capital expenditures, and progress billings.
Lead monthly close activities, including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting.
Prepare and review consolidated financial statements across multiple entities.
Assist with cash flow forecasting, budgeting, tax preparation, and annual filings.
Strengthen accounting procedures and internal controls while identifying opportunities to leverage AI and automation.
Partner with the Director of Investment Accounting and CAO on reporting improvements and special projects.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
10+ years of progressive accounting experience.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, investment accounting, and partnership accounting.
Experience with real estate/property accounting, project accounting, and multi-entity consolidations.
Familiarity with investment reporting, K-1s, and financial statement preparation.
Proficiency in NetSuite or similar ERP systems and advanced Excel.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Family office, private investment, fund accounting, or real estate investment experience preferred.
Exposure to AI tools such as ChatGPT or Claude is a plus.
