Payroll Specialist (Contract Opportunity)

Location: Iowa City, IA

Contract Position | Full-Time

Are you a payroll professional who enjoys working with numbers, ensuring accuracy, and meeting critical deadlines? We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist for a contract opportunity with a growing Iowa City-area organization. This role will be responsible for processing payroll, maintaining employee records, and supporting payroll compliance in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Process payroll accurately and on schedule for hourly and salaried employees

• Review timesheets, attendance records, and payroll data for completeness and accuracy

• Ensure proper payroll deductions, garnishments, benefits, and tax withholdings

• Reconcile payroll reports and assist with payroll-related audits

• Respond to employee questions regarding pay, deductions, and payroll processes

• Maintain payroll records and employee data while ensuring confidentiality

• Assist with new hire setups, employee changes, and terminations within payroll systems

• Partner with HR and accounting teams to support payroll-related initiatives

• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and company payroll policies

Requirements

Qualifications

• 2+ years of payroll processing experience preferred

• Experience working with payroll systems and HRIS platforms

• Knowledge of payroll regulations, tax withholdings, and wage laws

• Strong data entry and reconciliation skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications

• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

• Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
