Essential Job Functions:   

The Trust Clerk position accepts and dockets petitions and subsequent filings for guardianship and adoption cases for Anne Arundel County Circuit Court.  Once a guardianship is established, the incumbent meets with the newly appointed guardian to inform them of duties and responsibilities. Reviews annual fiduciary reports and testifies in court regarding any reporting issues that arise.

Opens new trusts, guardianships, and adoption cases by reading pleadings, making docket entries, establishing case file folder, and collecting associated court costs.

Reviews trust accounts to determine surety bond amount and type; request show cause orders for delinquent or problem cases.

Appears in court as requested by judge on fiduciary report issues.

Maintains fiduciary reports, notifying guardians of requested documentation and/or clarification of items in their annual reports, and present to judge any questionable expenditures.

Maintains and ensure court files and computer docket information is up to date.

Maintains daily calendar for reports due, annual inventory reports, etc. for trust/guardianships.

Assists the public and support agencies with obtaining information via telephone, in person or in written correspondence.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:     High school diploma (or GED equivalent).

Experience:   Two (2) years of clerical, fiscal, or accounting work experience. 

Note:

A Bachelor?s Degree may substitute two (2) years of required work experience. 

A Paralegal/Associates Degree or 60 college credits may substitute two (2) years of required work experience. 

A Paralegal Certificate may substitute one (1) year of required work experience.

Knowledge:

General office practices, procedures, and equipment.

Basic knowledge of the functions of other related agencies.

Of court forms, practices, procedures, protocols, systems, and equipment required to support the specialized work of the assigned unit(s).

Skill in:

Using a personal computer.

Accuracy and attention to detail. 

Organization and time management.

Ability to:

Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.

Read and interpret documents and procedure manuals.

Appear in court and answer questions posed by judge and/or attorneys.

Solve practical problems and deal with many variables.

Write routine reports, memos, and correspondence.

Refer to and if necessary cite the MD Annotated Code, MD Rules and Attorney Generals Opinions.

Communicate in an effective, patient, and tactful manner with customers and co-workers.

Complete duties and responsibilities in a helpful manner understanding and displaying a service minded approach to customers and coworkers. 

Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Read and interpret comments and notations.

Maintain strict confidentiality as required.

Set priorities and simultaneously process multiple duties and responsibilities.

Apply job-related codes, policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and laws as required. 

Understand job duties and functions of other related agencies.

Physical Requirements:

Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

Computer. Scanner. Fax Machine. Multi line telephone. Copier. 

Software and Computer Skills:

MDEC: Odyssey and File & Service. MS Office.  Outlook.
