Description

We are looking for an experienced Controller to support a growing operation in Muskegon, Michigan. This Long-term Contract-to-hire opportunity is ideal for a hands-on accounting leader who can oversee core financial activities, manage the general ledger, and deliver accurate reporting for a business of approximately $25 - $50 million in revenue. The role requires strong technical accounting knowledge, a solid command of month-end close, and the ability to guide a small accounting team in day-to-day execution.

Responsibilities:

Lead the full month-end closing cycle, ensuring timely completion of reconciliations, journal entries, and financial review activities.

Manage the general ledger and maintain accurate balance sheet and profit and loss reporting for the organization.

Prepare complete financial statements and support reliable reporting for leadership decision-making.

Oversee daily accounting operations by reviewing the work of accounts payable, payroll, and project or cost accounting staff.

Provide direct supervision, coaching, and quality control for the accounting teams routine deliverables.

Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities as needed by the business.

Apply technical accounting expertise to resolve complex accounting matters and strengthen financial accuracy.

Support payroll-related entries and ensure related accounting records are properly reflected in the books.

Contribute to accounting system process improvements, including work connected to the planned data migration.

Requirements

Demonstrated experience leading month-end close in a controller or senior accounting capacity.

Strong knowledge of general ledger management, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.

Proven ability to produce and analyze balance sheet and profit and loss reports.

Solid background in technical accounting with the ability to address complex accounting issues.

Experience supervising accounting staff and reviewing day-to-day transactional work.

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting ERP systems.

Familiarity with budgeting, financial planning, and supporting operational accounting functions.

Ability to work onsite in Muskegon, Michigan on a permanent 40-hour schedule.
