Location: Okemos, MI - On-site

Starting pay: Up to $31/hour

Our client is looking for a Payroll Specialist to manage their complex payroll for a mid-sized workforce in Okemos, Michigan. This position plays an important role in maintaining payroll records, applying multi-state pay rules, and supporting a smooth employee payment experience. The ideal candidate brings strong attention to detail, sound judgment with confidential information, and hands-on experience handling the full payroll cycle.

Responsibilities:

Process end-to-end payroll activities for a workforce of approximately 100 to 500 employees, ensuring accuracy and on-time completion each pay period.

Administer multi-state payroll transactions while applying relevant wage, tax, and deduction requirements across jurisdictions.

Maintain payroll data, review timesheets and earnings entries, and resolve discrepancies before payroll is finalized.

Verify employee pay changes, including new hires, status updates, deductions, and other compensation-related adjustments.

Reconcile payroll records and support reporting needs by preparing payroll summaries and related documentation.

Respond to employee and internal payroll questions with professionalism, clarity, and discretion.

Partner with internal teams to help maintain compliant payroll practices and support any payroll-related process updates when needed.

Requirements

Proven experience managing full-cycle payroll from data review through final processing.

Background handling complex payroll for organizations with 100 to 500 employees.

Strong accuracy and attention to detail when reviewing payroll entries and reconciliations.

Ability to manage sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality.

Proficiency with payroll systems and standard business software used for payroll administration.
