Tax Manager - PublicRobert Half
Job Summary
Description We are looking for an experienced Tax Manager - Public to join a growing tax team in Jersey City, New Jersey. This role is well suited for an experienced tax specialist who brings broad-based knowledge across domestic and state income tax matters and enjoys working in a structured, business-hours environment. The position focuses on technical review, preparation of supporting tax documentation, and interaction with state tax authorities rather than hands-on return preparation. Candidates from public accounting, including regional firms or corporate tax environments, who can provide strong oversight and practical guidance will thrive in this opportunity.
Responsibilities:
Review state and domestic tax work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable regulations.
Prepare and organize supporting tax schedules, workpapers, and related documentation for filings and internal review.
Serve as a point of contact for state tax agencies, responding to notices, questions, and other tax-related correspondence.
Provide oversight on income tax provision activities and help ensure timely and reliable reporting.
Evaluate corporate tax matters across multiple jurisdictions and identify issues requiring further research or escalation.
Support the tax function with sales and income tax analysis using tools such as CCH ProSystem Fx and related tax software.
Contribute to entity-related tax considerations, including documentation and coordination connected to entity formation activities.
Partner with internal stakeholders to maintain an efficient tax review process and uphold filing readiness throughout the year. Requirements 10-15+ years of tax experience, with substantial exposure to income tax and state tax matters.
Strong background as a tax generalist with the ability to review work across domestic corporate tax areas.
Demonstrated experience preparing tax support schedules and technical documentation, even if not directly completing returns in the role.
Knowledge of annual income tax provision processes and related reporting requirements.
Familiarity with corporate tax return environments and tax technology such as CCH ProSystem Fx and CCH Sales Tax.
Ability to communicate effectively with state tax representatives and manage tax correspondence effectively.
Experience gained in public accounting, a regional tax firm, or a corporate tax setting is preferred.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Tax, Finance, or a related field; advanced tax credentials are a plus.
