About the Role

An expanding retail organization is seeking a Contract Senior Payroll Specialist to support payroll operations for a large employee population. This role will handle complex payroll functions, assist with payroll compliance, and serve as a key resource for payroll reporting and process improvements. The ideal candidate has experience managing high-volume payroll in a retail or consumer-facing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Process payroll for a large multi-state employee population.

• Review payroll data for accuracy and compliance.

• Manage payroll adjustments, deductions, bonuses, and commissions.

• Reconcile payroll accounts and prepare payroll-related journal entries.

• Assist with payroll tax filings and year-end processing.

• Partner with HR regarding employee status changes and benefits administration.

• Maintain compliance with wage and hour laws.

• Prepare payroll analysis and management reporting.

• Support internal and external audit requests.

• Identify and implement payroll process improvements.

Requirements

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred.

• 5+ years of payroll experience.

• Experience processing high-volume payroll for retail organizations strongly preferred.

• Knowledge of multi-state payroll regulations.

• Experience with ADP Workforce Now, UKG, Paychex, Workday, or similar payroll systems.

• Strong understanding of payroll accounting, payroll taxes, and compliance requirements.

• Advanced Excel skills.

• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is a plus.

Preferred Experience

• Multi-location retail payroll experience.

• Union payroll exposure.

• Payroll reporting and analytics.

• Experience supporting organizations with 500+ employees.

• Prior experience assisting with payroll system implementations or upgrades.
