Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) is seeking transitioning service members to participate in the Department of War (DoW) SkillBridge Program. The DoW SkillBridge Program provides transitioning service members with the opportunity to gain real-world civilian work experience during their final 180 days of active duty. This opportunity provides hands-on experience in a professional research and operations environment, supporting mission-critical work across scientific, technical, and administrative disciplines.

SkillBridge participants will be matched with appropriate teams based on their military experience, skills, and career interests. This program is designed to support service members in gaining civilian work experience while contributing to BNL’s diverse initiatives.

Responsibilities will vary depending on placement but may include:

• Supporting day-to-day operations within assigned department

• Assisting with project coordination, documentation, and reporting

• Applying technical or administrative skills to ongoing initiatives

• Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including scientists, engineers, and administrative staff

• Participating in meetings, briefings, and training sessions

• Completing assigned deliverables aligned with department goals

Career Path Opportunities

SkillBridge participants are placed into roles based on qualifications, experience, and career interests. Opportunities may include:

• Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, etc.)

• Information Technology / Cybersecurity

• Facilities & Operations

• Project Management

• Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H)

• Business Operations / Finance / Procurement

• Scientific Research Support

• Currently serving in the military and eligible for the SkillBridge program with approval from your command

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in team environments and adapt to new situations

• Strong commitment to professional growth and transitioning successfully to civilian career opportunities

• Available to work 40 hours/week onsite in Upton, NY
