Job Purpose:
Senior level, legal professional responsible for leading and providing legal support to 2 DSC functions/business partners: (i) DSC AM/NORAMRES; and (ii) DSC NORAM CRE. Serves as the Legal appointee to both management teams with responsibility for assuring the efficient delivery of legal support and services for CRE in NORAM and for RES in NORAM. Responsible for defining and recommending legal strategies and objectives designed to mitigate the organization's exposure to legal and related risks; Helps to coordinate legal support among SD71 lawyers in other regions to establish best in class legal processes and procedures to identify and to provide transparency of legal risks in areas of responsibility. Supports development of business strategy in area of responsibility through active participation in management meetings and discussions; Keen awareness, expertise, and knowledge of laws, rules and regulations impacting DSC operations in area of responsibility.
Your Tasks:
- Senior level legal representative regionally and in sub region for each respective area accountable to senior management for DSC and responsible for advising and managing legal and related risks associated with DSC’s business.
- Participates in the definition and development of applicable corporate policies globally, regionally and in the subregion as well as procedures where legal has a key role and provides continuing counsel and guidance on legal matters and on legal implications of all matters to senior management.
- Contribute to strategic planning and decision-making to support the implementation of global strategy and implements plans to execute the legal strategy at regional and sub regional levels, aligning with the organization and the businesses’ vision and business objectives.
- Evaluate applicable policies and transactions in the countries of responsibility to ensure they comply with all relevant laws, policies and regulations.
- Responsible for creating, leading and executing legal initiatives in area of responsibility to assure they all align with the Global Group Strategy and Legal Strategy.
- Interact and participate with senior executives and managers to provide legal advice, constructive risk analysis and solutions for significant decisions having legal, financial, risk or regulatory implications.
- Accountable to regional and sub-regional executive management team/CEO for all legal matters in area of responsibility. - Leads diverse, multi country team of professionals and support staff to provide legal support to DSC Americas/NORAM RES business unit and legal support to CRE in NORAM.
- Responsible for providing training and knowledge tools to educate legal team and members of the business on key legal issues, trends and developments in the law.
- Establishes best in class legal strategies and procedures to assure business objectives are met and legal risks are identified and mitigated.
- Consultation and influence of NORAM DSC Board and Operations Leadership on legal framework, new laws and regulations and impact to organization and development of strategy and actions to ensure compliance.
- Manages local counsel that work closely with internal and external auditors and governmental authorities on legal issues involving the countries and areas of responsibility.
- Responsible for assuring organization's legal interests are best represented and protected in real estate development and leasing agreements along with third party contracts; active participant in negotiating such contracts and/or leases.
- Negotiate critical agreements/contracts with 3rd parties
- Develop strong, trusting relationships with senior business leaders across DSC AM and DSC Globally
- Influence others across DHL and externally as an internally and externally recognized thought leader representing the Group
- Champion cooperation and partnership to provide integrated solutions to problems.
- Proven, strategic and engaging leader with responsibility for leading a team of multiple professionals and support staff in multiple locations focused on determining the appropriate balance of internal versus external resources and the appropriate level of specialization within the team.
- Identify opportunities for reducing external legal spend by potentially in-sourcing legal services where appropriate.
- Attracts, recruits, trains and manages a team of lawyers and support staff.
- Evaluates performance of team and assures appropriate focus is given to personnel development and succession planning.
- Lead and manage a team of AM/NORAM RES and CRE and support staff responsible for real estate legal matters and topic across multiple locations, ensuring alignment and consistency in approval.
- Determine the appropriate balance between internal and external legal resources, including identifying opportunities to reduce external legal spending by in-sourcing work where appropriate.
- Provide strategic leadership and legal guidance on complex real estate matters, while promoting best practices and knowledge-sharing within the Real Estate legal function.
- Coordinate with regional and global legal teams to ensure consistency in real estate legal advice and risk management.
- Support the development of best practices and knowledge-sharing within the Real Estate legal function.

- University law degree (J.D.s from Law School)
