We are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager/Supervisor to oversee core accounting operations and provide financial leadership for a growing organization supporting a security industry and government contract work. This contract position has the potential to become permanent offering the opportunity to guide reporting, compliance, and process improvement while leading a small accounting-related team. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on accounting expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to balance daily execution with broader financial oversight in a dynamic business environment. This position will be REMOTE for our client based out of Oak Ridge, TN.

Responsibilities:

Direct the day-to-day accounting function, ensuring accurate financial operations and dependable support for business objectives.

Lead, coach, and coordinate a small team that supports accounting, payroll, and related administrative activities.

Manage financial oversight for government-funded contracts, with close attention to compliance, reporting expectations, and documentation standards.

Oversee the month-end close cycle, including review of journal entries, reconciliations, and final financial results.

Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and ensure transactions are recorded accurately and consistently.

Review account balances and resolve discrepancies through timely and thorough reconciliation processes.

Support payroll administration and help ensure related financial records and compliance obligations are handled correctly.

Strengthen accounting workflows, internal controls, and departmental procedures to improve efficiency and reliability.

Provide leadership with financial reporting, analysis, and practical insights that support operational and contract performance decisions.

Work across departments to align accounting activities with broader organizational needs and ongoing contract execution.

Requirements At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership or team supervision responsibilities.

Demonstrated experience managing month-end close, journal entries, general ledger activity, and account reconciliations.

Prior experience handling accounting functions tied to government contracts is required.

Strong knowledge of financial reporting, internal controls, and overall accounting operations.

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and comfort working within accounting and financial management systems, including JAMIS.

Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and full-cycle payroll processing.

Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is preferred.

Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to succeed in a hands-on environment.
