Job Summary
Description
We are looking for an Accounting Analyst to support a contract assignment focused on improving the accuracy and organization of financial records. This Contract position is ideal for someone who is comfortable working independently, reconciling complex account activity, and resolving outstanding discrepancies across multiple periods. The role will contribute to cleanup efforts across accounting transactions while maintaining clear records and dependable follow-through.
Responsibilities:
Review bank and account activity across current and prior periods to identify discrepancies, clear aged items, and bring reconciliations up to date.
Investigate unmatched transactions by analyzing timing differences, payment activity, deposit records, and other supporting documentation to determine proper resolution.
Perform accounts payable and general accounting tasks, including entering bills, processing bill credits, and applying payments accurately within the accounting system.
Maintain detailed reconciliation support and audit-friendly documentation so work can be easily understood, validated, and continued by others as needed.
Use Excel tools such as pivot tables, lookup functions, filtering, and sorting to organize large data sets and evaluate transaction-level detail efficiently.
Monitor vendor balances, open items, and offsetting entries to ensure credits and payments are properly reflected and cleared.
Follow established procedures closely while escalating exceptions, inconsistencies, or unusual activity that requires further review.
Support accounting data cleanup initiatives and related transaction review efforts within financial systems, including NetSuite when applicable.
Requirements
1+ years of hands-on experience in accounting, accounts payable, general ledger support, or account reconciliation.
Practical background in bank or account reconciliations, including researching aged balances or resolving historical outstanding items.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including sorting, filtering, pivot tables, and lookup functions when working with large volumes of data.
Understanding of payment and deposit activity and the ability to trace how transactions appear within bank records and accounting reports.
Experience entering bills, credits, and payments in an accounting platform, with a solid grasp of how these transactions affect balances.
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
NetSuite experience and insurance industry exposure are helpful but not required.
