Description:

Innovation lab at Texas Biomedical Research Institute, is looking to fill a Research Specialist position. The position will be focused on performing preclinical translational studies in collaboration with Industry partners. This is a full-time position is to increase the institute capacity for contract research.


The Role:

Research (75%)
•Plan and execute studies under the supervision of the Study Director/Principal Investigators.
•Plan and perform experiments handling a range of infectious agents (at BSL-3 and BSL-2) and in a variety of different animal models and human tissues.
•Plan and perform in-vitro and ex-vivo cell-based assays, including cell culture, plaque assays, ELISA, RT-PCR, flow cytometry, and molecular genetics techniques.
•Perform in vivo rodent research including infection, necropsy, and manipulations.
•Plan and perform isolation and manipulation of cells from human and Non-human primate tissues.
•Performs library research to find current and/or new trends/methods.
•Assist Study Director/Principal Investigators in preparing presentations and writing reports.

Administrative (20%)
•Responsible for assisting Study Director/Principal Investigators with the development of institutional regulatory compliance documents.
•Assist Study Director/Principal Investigators. with developing Scope of Work (SOW) documentation.
•Maintains study records relative to study design and execution.
•Responsible for assisting Study Director/Principal Investigators with development of study SOPs.

General Labs Maintenance (5%)
• Assist in the preparation of materials for testing.
• Ordering and maintaining supplies related to project work
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Our Ideal Candidate:
• Ph.D. degree in a biological/health science or an equivalent with 2 years of relevant experience (preferred).
• Master's degree in a biological/health science or an equivalent with 5 years or more experience
• Requires successful completion of a background check (required).

Preferred Research Skills:
• Laboratory experience: Competency and experience in BSL-3 work practices.
• Animals: Experience handling rodents (mice, hamsters), performing in vivo manipulations, and proficient in evaluation of mouse study endpoints, necropsy/harvesting organs techniques.
• Immunology: Experience in basic immunology techniques such as cell isolation and culture, ELISA; flow cytometry.
• Microbiology: Cultivation of viral and bacterial strains under BSL-3 conditions.
• Molecular Biology: Experience in basic molecular techniques such as DNA & RNA extraction from cells, performing polymerase chain reaction; qRT-PCR, & primer design.
• Software: Proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, GraphPad Prism, and/or others.

Potential Hazards:
•Working with BSL-3 designated pathogens, and possibly Select Agent pathogens.
•Working with human and animal tissues, including Non-human primate tissues.
•Participation in a medical monitoring and surveillance program is required.
•Safety training, equipment, clothing and supplies will be provided when required).

This is a full-time salaried (exempt) position. Texas business hours are Mondays through Fridays -8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Texas Biomed is committed to a drug-free workplace. Pre-employment drug screen is required].
