About the Role

At Haleon we are a business led by our purpose: to deliver better everyday health with humanity.  This means breaking down the social and environmental barriers that hold people back from better everyday health.

Therefore, there is a critical need to support Haleon’s teams to develop more sustainable products to deliver against Haleon’s current and future environmental ambitions by providing expert guidance on quantifying and remediating a range of environmental factors such as carbon emissions, air quality, water etc.  Working within the Haleon’s Sustainability Team, this role will work closely with functions such as R&D and Quality and Supply Chain, as well as Global Categories and Business Units to support them in using these insights to develop and execute strategies for more sustainable products.

In addition, the role involves supporting the development and application of tools and processes to allow more holistic environmental assessments to be conducted by the wider business to develop more sustainable products and respond to external drivers such as emerging regulation and extended producer responsibility frameworks.

The role will use these insights to identify opportunities to drive growth (eg through superior claims) and potential risks to inform decision making on future strategy and innovation to make our products more sustainable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bring subject matter expertise on Life Cycle Assessments, able to conduct assessments when needed and advise teams on the subject.

  • Support the development and operationalisation of science-based environmental impact assessment processes, tools and programmes to enable rapid progress towards our environmental goals and increase the proportion of Haleon SKUs being able to make environmental claims and qualify for high growth sustainable choices retailer ranges.

  • Support the development and implementation of Haleon’s Climate Transition plan.

  • Help equip people across the business with the tools, insights and solutions needed to take informed, science-based decisions on solutions for ingredients, sourcing, packaging, formats so that teams can prioritise the right actions and access the latest solutions to deliver our environmental goals

  • Work with functions such as finance to integrate potential economic impact factors (such as plastic and carbon taxation, extended producer responsibility fees) and opportunities (consumer claims, qualifying for high growth retailer ranges) into business cases to enable Haleon to make holistic decisions on innovation choices.

  • Help identify environmental impact factors that will need to be considered in the future to stay competitive with peers, ahead of upcoming regulation and differentiate our products with consumer and customers (eg water, chemical footprint, nature impacts).

  • Support quantication of materiality, target setting and operationalisation of new environmental impact areas through R&D, categories and BUs.

  • Act as the sustainable innovation and product development subject matter expert to R&D and Quality & Supply Chain teams – providing insights to help refine our strategy and goals to ensure Haleon and our brands are competitively positioned on sustainability

  • Support and lead specific projects with Business Units and functions to demonstrate the ‘art of the possible’ in delivering against our current and potential future targets.  Through these projects codify learnings and ‘how to guides’ to then build capability for similar projects to be run by BUs or Categories.
