Job Summary

The Senior Tax Analyst’s primary job responsibility will be to support all direct and indirect tax activity in over 350 states and local jurisdictions in accordance with their respective guidelines. With the aid of management, this role will be relied upon to research and provide tax related guidance to the business on various tax issues, as needed. This role offers an opportunity to participate in a diverse cross section of many different tax areas such as partnership income tax, utility taxes, sales and use tax, property tax, and severance withholdings tax. Daily duties will include preparing and reviewing monthly state and local tax reports/returns, related tax payments, customer refund claims for multiple states, counties, parishes, cities and local jurisdictions. In addition, assisting with all related tax audit requirements, monthly tax account reconciliations and supporting the tax exemption certificate management process.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for direct and indirect taxes in 350+ state and local jurisdictions.
  • Research and provide guidance to business on various tax issues, as needed.
  • Support partnership federal and (36) state returns, K1’s and quarterly estimate processes.
  • Responsible for performing compliance functions (i.e. review of detailed tax data, return preparation and tax accruals). Timely tax return compliance and on-time tax remittance is critical.
  • Prepare tax fillings for multiple states utilizing detailed system reports complying with all filing deadlines for (1) sales and use tax (2) severance/withholding tax (3) property tax.
  • Prepare wire transfers and check requests for payment of taxes.
  • Assist on a regular basis with state and local sales tax refund process.
  • Coordinate and prepare various exemption certificate requests from vendors.
  • Prepare business license requests/renewals and business sales tax registrations as needed.
  • Assist with analysis and proper tax coding of tax transactions.
  • Support the preparation of tax account reconciliation to ensure accurate financial statements.
  • Ad-hoc activities as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Certification/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance or general business. Tax related professional designations are preferred.
  • One to four years of full-time tax professional working experience; experience in natural gas energy preferred.
  • Experience with or ability to quickly learn ERP (Microsoft Dynamics 365), CRM (SalesForce), ETRM (Endur) and sales tax decision software (OneSource) preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft software including Excel, Word and PowerPoint required.

  • Able to visually perceive information on a personal computer monitor or laptop screen for extended periods of time.
  • Capable of operating a personal computer, whether it is a desktop or laptop, for extended periods of time to create, compose, and review documents and spreadsheets.
  • Competent in operating office equipment, including but not limited to telephones, mobile phones, photocopiers, scanners, and calculators.
  • Able to reach, grasp, and manipulate items necessary to perform job tasks.
  • Able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time as required by job responsibilities.
  • Proficient in speaking, reading, and comprehending the English language.
  • Able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
