Responsibilities

PROCUREMENT

Responsible for ordering all pharmaceuticals, supplies and equipment.

Maintains competence in the use of the all ordering systems, including but not limited to: wholesaler, Legacy product ordering systems, DEA Controlled Substance Ordering System (CSOS), 340B split billing tool (if appropriate), etc.

Selects and completes alternate ordering processes as appropriate: directs, wholesaler specialty division, plasma division, DEA 222 order form, and Legacy Re-Packaging/Distribution Center purchases.

Maintains target contract compliance.

Ensures adherence to Legacy Health preferred products.

INVENTORY RECEIPT and MANAGEMENT

Responsible for managing drug shortages and backorders and takes appropriate action to communicate pertinent information to pharmacy leadership and staff.

Receives shipments and verifies quantity and quality of materials.

Visually inspects all products to insure intact packaging, lack of damage/defect and appropriate expiration dating.

Records receipt of controlled substances in the Controlled Substances Automated Medication Dispensing System (CII Safe) and adds product to inventory appropriately.

Identifies products that are designated Hazardous Drugs and assures appropriate handling, storage, and labeling within the pharmacy. Manages damaged Hazardous Drugs according to Legacy policy and procedure.

Maintains required records of receipt and dispensation.

Establishes and maintains appropriate inventory levels of drugs/supplies. Achieves a target inventory turnover rate.

In conjunction with the Pharmacy Purchasing Coordinator, establishes Min/Max levels for “A” Inventory and performs a monthly “A” Inventory count. Provides a variance explanation for each item exceeding MAX inventory level.

Manages drug recalls. Demonstrates competency in the use of the RASMAS System.

Coordinates with the reverse distributor or drug manufacturer to return outdated or damaged product for both controlled and non-controlled substances.

Prepares the pharmacy department for annual physical inventory. Performs, participates in and/or supervises the activity of contracted staff in conducting the inventory of all pharmaceutical products.

Prepares the bi-monthly drug wholesaler statement. Reconciles drug wholesaler invoices each two-week period.

Manages the transfer of drugs between Legacy Hospital Pharmacies and Legacy clinic sites.

Understands the Legacy Vendor Management Policy and holds vendors accountable.



Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or GED. Graduate of accredited Pharmacy Technician training program.

Experience: Three years of pharmacy technician experience required. Hospital experience and two years of pharmacy purchasing experience preferred.
