The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University is a leading force in the American theater, producing groundbreaking work in Cambridge and beyond. As the professional theater on the campus of Harvard University, A.R.T. is committed to the collaborative and creative exchange among a wide range of academic departments, institutions, students, and faculty members. A.R.T. plays a central role in Harvard’s undergraduate Theater, Dance & Media concentration and also mentors students in the Harvard Radcliffe Dramatic Club at the Loeb Drama Center.
This position supports Stage operations and the running of shows for A.R.T.’s production of Gatsby as a swing/on-call crew member, working on a variable schedule basis for 20-40 hours per week to rotate into stage operations crew positions, with a focus on being able to adapt to different show running tracks as needed to support productions. This position will be asked to swing into multiple show run tracks (Deck Hand, Flyperson, Props Technician). Cross-training will be provided, but experience in other run crew disciplines (spot operator, sound operator, wardrobe, etc.) is preferred.

Working Conditions
A.R.T. is a multistory building without an elevator, with work taking place on all levels. The Stage Operations Technicians will be asked to move props, stage ops equipment, and other materials to and from storage or around the building, as well as loading and unloading material from trucks and vans (both at a loading dock and from the street). They will also help install rigging and loading 40lb stage weights into counter-weight arbors. During load in and strike, work may take place on ladders, genies, and the steel grating of the grid, 60’ above deck, which is accessed via a 78-step spiral staircase. Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, strength, coordination, and stamina. This position requires night and weekend work, particularly during tech, previews, and run of shows.
Work Format Details
This position is based primarily on-campus, in Massachusetts. This may include in-person during emergency situations (if applicable). Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
