Job Description

Starting annual salary $65,000 commensurate with experience

The overall role of the School Based Clinician is to provide counseling, assessment, consultation, and support to the students so that their IEPs can be implemented, and they can benefit from the educational experience while in the program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides school classrooms with two group counseling experiences each week during the school day.
  • Supports students who are struggling during school hours.
  • Provides weekly individual counseling when recommended by the PPT, as well as offers short term individual counseling as needed.
  • Maintains contact with program clinicians regarding student issues.
  • Consults with school administration, teachers and school staff regarding student progress and concerns.
  • Conducts safety assessments and develop safety plans.
  • Participates in PPT meetings to develop goals and objectives in the social/emotional/behavioral domains.
  • Prepares written reports to be presented at PPT meetings as well as, prepares reports required by the school district.
  • Maintains data regarding IEP goals and objectives and reports data to the school district and the family.
  • Maintains contact with school district and new school prior to student discharge.
  • Monitors student progress on the level system and collaborates with teachers around recommendations for revisions.
  • Develops behavioral contracts with specific students as needed.
  • Participates in program/department rounds.
  • Maintains contact with parents.
  • Oversees the data collection and entry into the CSDE website for restraints that occur during school hours on days when school is in session.
  • Conducts assessments as requested by the PPT.
  • Documents all clinical interventions in accordance with The Village policy, Joint Commission standards, and state and regulatory expectations.

Experience and Skills

EDUCATION

  • A master’s degree in social work or school psychology is required.
  • CT State Department of Education certification in either school social work or school psychology is required.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Experience with outpatients including experience with children.
  • School experience desirable.
  • Strong diagnostic, assessment, and treatment skills for youth with behavioral and psychiatric issues.
  • Knowledge of mental health, child welfare systems, and community resources.
  • Good organizational, time management, and communication skills.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse populations, a wide age range, and a variety of clinical presentations.
  • Proficiency in general computer skills.
  • Physically able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations. These responsibilities include but are not limited to, the ability to function safely in a therapeutic situation.
