Position Summary

The Principal Engineer is primarily responsible for leading engineering efforts for new product development and commercialization. The principal engineer has a good understanding of our products and technologies and is responsible for creating differentiated competitive technology and product advantage for RIX within the engineering domain.


Requirements:

Responsibilities

  • Leading mechanical system and product development efforts through scoping to product launch
  • Skilled at creating linkage between product strategy and technology roadmaps
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance as needed by customer and market segments
  • Skilled at development of intellectual property and protection of such Intellectual property
  • Coordination of technical efforts interacting with multiple cross-functional teams: serves as a technical liaison with customer technical and program management representatives
  • Responsible for guiding external contractor engineering resources
  • Identifying emerging technology feasibility, opportunities and risks
  • Leading critical design reviews and participating in design review and FMEA process
  • Leading by example of engineering design excellence.
  • Ensuring adherence to engineering procedures.
  • Designing and/or specifying sub-systems as well as complete mechanical systems.
  • Reviewing and approving engineering calculations in support of design and baselining efforts.
  • Reviewing and approving engineering drawings, change orders, test reports, etc.
  • Implementing design solutions to meet requirements for new products or processes.
  • Leading sustaining engineering efforts through change order scoping, BOM manipulation, etc.
  • Coordinating work assignments with drafters/designers and manufacturing personnel to complete project tasks.
  • Leading root cause failure analysis and correction on malfunctioning products.
  • Prioritizing work to meet project schedules.
  • May provide work leadership and mentorship for early career employees.
  • Performing all assignments and other duties as assigned by Engineering Management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an accredited engineering school and 15 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in ASME Y14.
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as Inventor, CREO, Solidworks, or similar.
  • Advanced knowledge of machine design, material properties/selection, and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in processes pertaining to product development.
  • Proficiency with DFM/DFMA principles.
  • Effective communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to travel both nationally and internationally up to 5% of the time.
  • Citizenship: U.S. Citizen or qualified U.S. Person in accordance with ALU 22CFR 120.15.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of science in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 20 or more years relevant engineering experience
  • Demonstrated new product development and commercialization success
  • Advanced degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering school.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

Must have the following physical abilities:

  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch, reach, and lift.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods at a desk or table as well as machine tools or printers.
