Description:

Looking for a dynamic, high performing and energetic Education Outreach Specialist who will be responsible for implementation and management of education outreach programs for the general public with a focus on K-12 educators and students. This position requires keen knowledge of curricula development, pedagogical strategies, and teaching experience.


The Role:

• Collaborate with the Education Outreach Program Manager to implement and maintain Texas Biomed's research education outreach programs, to include annual strategic goals and objectives.

• Coordinate and lead the Scientist in Residence Program which pairs scientists with area teachers to visit classrooms, collaborate to enrich classroom activities, and share information about biomedical careers.

• Manage and implement outreach events for K-12 including but not limited to: career days, securing volunteer judges to support area K-12 science fairs, presentations to K-12 school groups, summer educational programs from high school students and all-grade level teachers, and conduct high school tours (face to face and virtual).

• Administer evaluation tools for school and community education programs to ensure program alignment with institutional goals.

• Collaborate with the Education Outreach Program Manager and Southwest National Primate Research Center (SNPRC) to support K-12 outreach activities for the SNPRC.

• Collaborate with the leadership and area teachers to develop relevant state of the art STEM-focused curriculum with an emphasis on infectious disease research that is accessible to K-12 students and teachers for implementation both in-person and virtually.

• Develop virtual programs aligned with Texas Biomed curricular activities which feature laboratory procedures applied in bioscience research to create connections between K-12 classroom content and real-world applications.

• Collaborate with leadership to support activities as defined in grant awards (e.g. SEPA), to include but not limited to: planning summer teacher professional development programs, recruitment and applicant interviews, facilitating workshops, assisting with program evaluation and data collection, mentoring program participants, and ensuring developed resources align with grant aims.

• Collaborate with leadership to generate articles pertaining to education and community outreach programs.


Our Ideal Candidate:

· Bachelor's degree in Education required; Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Education, Science or related field preferred

· Five years teaching experience within K-12 education or an educational leadership role, including experience with curriculum writing and professional development programming required; Science experience preferred

· Competent MS Office skills including Outlook, Excel and Word
