This position is responsible for working on transactions and with sponsors who specialize in the multifamily affordable and workforce housing sector. The individual will be tasked to screen, analyze and manage the overall progress of loans originated by the platform. After transactions go through initial prescreen and term sheet stages, the individual will work closely with the underwriting and closing teams to manage the progression of loans through internal committee approvals. The individual will also have an opportunity to originate loans directly while acting as transaction manager on other loans. Transactions will include debt investments in Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), Workforce and Mixed-Income housing properties. This individual should have a solid understanding of the multifamily affordable housing industry and should be able to navigate and build relationships with developers. Individual will primarily serve the Midwest/Southeast regions of the U.S.

Individual must be able to do initial loan reviews and determine project feasibility based on company's credit parameters. Successful candidate will be able to rely on their experience and judgment to plan and accomplish essential duties and responsibilities for originating balance sheet permanent loans. This is a Director or Senior Director level position based on the candidate's experience and qualification.

Essential Functions

  • Experience in loan originations and transacting in affordable housing (AH) loans
  • Knowledge of LIHTC programs and how they work
  • Knowledge of sizing and analyzing AH loans
  • Brings experience in loan structuring and underwriting balance sheet loan products
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to lead the transaction process with borrowers and sponsors
  • Self-motivated, can work independently and is highly organized
  • Ability to prioritize multiple competing tasks
  • Interacts extensively with platform underwriters, analysts, servicing and asset management
  • Brings transparency and a "team approach" mentality
Skills and Competencies
  • Requires minimum 5 years of experience in affordable housing lending
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop and/or cultivate relationships
  • Can be strategic in winning opportunities
  • Detailed attention to presentation and strong organizational skills
  • Can communicate effectively and able to present loan transactions to investment committee
  • Results oriented in a deadline driven work environment
  • High energy, self-motivated and ability to make immediate, logical decisions
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Bachelor's Degree
