The Laboratory Supervisor assists with day-to-day supervision of assigned lab personnel, assists with implementing lab safety and quality programs, will train lab staff on use of equipment and on procedures, and will perform a full range of routine and specialized procedures in the pathology laboratory. The Lab Supervisor serves as a technical resource for troubleshooting and uses independent judgment and resources to resolve problems.

Location: Phoenix, Arizona

Hours: 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM

Days: Monday - Friday

In this role, you will:

  • Performs tasks normally associated with supervision such as hiring, training, coaching, scheduling, directing and appraising the work of assigned staff
  • Will be a working supervisor role in which the incumbent will also perform the work of those supervised
  • This position has direct reports
  • Hold regularly scheduled one on ones with direct reports on at least a monthly basis
  • Is an advocate for direct reports regarding ensuring ideas are heard/shared and in their career progression planning and efforts
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Adhere to laboratory’s quality control policies, document all quality control activities, and maintain a clean and well-organized work area.
  • Maintain proficiency and training requirements.

      Supervisory

  • Schedules and adjusts staffing to ensure adequate coverage of assigned Histology areas as required by work flow and volume in order to meet or exceed established turnaround times.  Maintains attendance records; approves overtime and requests for time off.  Provides coverage for staff as needed.
  • Provides input and participates as directed in the evaluation of staff members for promotions, salary adjustments, annual performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, and terminations.

Licensure/Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Possesses an Associate degree in Histology, Biology, Chemistry or other related field, a Bachelor degree is preferred; degree must satisfy the CLIA standards for Grossing Surgical Specimens (12 course hours of Biology and Chemistry combined)
  • 5 or more years experience in the histology field
  • Hold and maintain the HT or HTL (ASCP) certification.
  • May accept additional education and/or experience in lieu of certification when certification is not a jurisdictional requirement for the job

Bonus points if you’ve got:

  • 2+ years of laboratory training or experience in a high volume laboratory with documented special stain and immunohistochemistry experience
