Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Tooling Quality Inspector to join our Tooling & Emergent Operations Quality group located in Berkeley, MO.

Inspectors in this position perform inspection of fabricated tools and periodic inspection of Tooling used for the acceptance of product. As well as dimensional inspections of fabricated parts, vendor parts, assemblies for conformance with applicable drawings, specifications, quality standards, manufacturing plans and for workmanship, using Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), Laser Tracker, Romer Arm, etc. and documenting any non-conformance. Inspectors will perform audit/surveillance of all processes as required and may provide instruction and OJT for other employees.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform inspection and/or process monitoring of tool fabrication processes, to ensure tools are built per the applicable drawing, specifications and procedures.
  • Perform periodic tooling inspection using both physical and digital definition and interpret data for acceptance of tooling compliance.
  • Utilize and/or interpret 3D measurement and analysis systems and software; such as Laser Trackers, Romer Arm, CMM
  • Conducts precision measurement inspections for first article inspection or production validations on any parts checking to 3-D model or blueprint and/or according to the Quality inspection plan.
  • Obtain the applicable tool drawings, engineering drawing, Model Based Definition (MDB) information and specifications to perform task
  • Identify, investigate, and document nonconformance of materials, hardware, tools, tool assemblies or portions thereof, according to specification, processes and procedures utilizing appropriate computing applications.
  • Coordinate and work with internal/external organizations (e.g., engineering, planning, fabrication/operation) to provide clarification and/or additional information.
  • Perform audit/surveillance of tool/part fabrication processes, according to documented specifications, process and procedures.
  • Screen paperwork/on-line system fabrication order and review the completed job and inspect workmanship.
  • Ensure all parts/assemblies have been assembled per the tool drawing, specification and fabrication order.
  • Process and monitor non-conforming parts/assemblies in appropriate area with supporting documentation, identifying rejection number with parts.
  • Indicate Tooling Quality Acceptance on the appropriate paperwork and/or on-line systems and process the paperwork/systems as required per appropriate procedures and policies.
  • Investigate and clear nonconformance reports associated with tool manufacturing process as required per process.
  • Verify record and re-inspect removals/reinstallations /rework of tooling components, as required.
  • Verify all paperwork/online instruction (e.g., manufacturing order, applicable drawings, specifications, nonconformance items and any other necessary documents) is complete and accurate.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Security Clearance and Export Control Requirements:

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. ยง 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Experience as a Quality Inspector
  • 5+ years of experience working in a tool/part fabrication environment.
  • 5+ years of experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications (e.g., blueprint/schematic reading, specification, change, design)
  • 5 + years of experience using software applications for internet navigation, email, Microsoft Suite and/or other specialized computer applications

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Technical trade school certificate/degree (Or appropriate apprenticeship completion)
  • Experience with Aerospace tool/part fabrication
  • 3+ years of experience as an inspector/operator of Computer Aided Measurement Systems, Coordinate Measurement Machines, Laser Tracker, Laser Scanners, etc.
  • 3+ years of experience in setting and using precision measuring tools and equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and/or dial indicators
  • 3+ years of experience performing quality inspections on machined parts and mechanical assemblies.
  • 3+ years of experience conducting Inspections using ASME Standards for Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T)

Typical Education:

High school graduate or GED preferred.

2 Year Technical/Trade School (Machining/Tooling/Precision Measurement) preferred.

Additional Information:
  • The selected candidate must be able to work any shift, as assigned
  • This is an hourly position governed by the IAM Collective Bargaining agreement.
  • New Hires, as well as employees who transfer from non-union positions, may be required to attend some type of training upon their start. Once any required training has been completed all new employees will be considered on probation for a period of 120 calendar days. Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of any required training and the probationary period.

Summary pay range:$27.00/Hour-$44.59/Hour
