Salary Range: $21 - $23/hour
Job Description: The Mechanic 2 installs, repairs, disassembles, and tests machinery and piping systems aboard U.S. Navy ships and supervises a team of up to four mechanical helpers. The Mechanic 2 operates handheld power tools and machine shop tools. The Mechanic 2 interprets NAVSEA Technical Specifications, conducts shipchecks of project requirements, drafts Condition Found Reports, initiates ship equipment tagouts, and submits material purchase requisitions to the QED Purchasing Department.
Job Requirements/Skill Sets:
Candidate must have five years of experience in the ship repair industry. Prior military mechanical experience is a plus. Prior experience with gas turbine engines is a plus. Familiarity with NAVSEA Standard Items is a plus.
The candidate must be a U.S. citizen, possess a valid Driver License, have reliable transportation, be able to climb vertical/inclined ladders to access work areas aboard US Navy ships, be physically able to work aboard ships under varying environmental conditions (heat & humidity), and comply with OSHA safety regulations.
Education Requirements: High School Diploma or GED is desired.
Security Clearance/Naval Facility Access: Eligible for and be able to maintain a U.S. Secret Clearance is preferred. Be able to access military facilities, naval shipyards, and private shipyards.
