Service Engineer (SE) will work alongside qualified technicians in installing, commissioning, scheduling, and servicing products serviced by Fairbanks Morse Defense; as well as respond to customer complaints, evaluate and resolve problems of customers, and analyze, inspect and review findings to determine solutions to problems. The SE will establish and maintain proper business relationships with customers and co-workers.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Basic troubleshooting, installation, maintenance and repair on designated equipment
  • Diagnose problems and develop solutions to resolve issues
  • Keep up to date on administrative responsibilities such as maintaining internal service records and manuals, maintaining customer service logs, providing accurate and timely reporting (expense reports, project closure, timekeeping, etc.), documenting work performed on Service Reports, and writing Condition Found Reports
  • Keep current on Engineering Change Orders, Field Service Change Notices and Service Information Letters
  • Adhere to all Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and applicable regulatory requirements (including but not limited to operating in a safe manner in accordance with published safety guidelines, wearing appropriate PPE, reporting all work-related accidents or injuries within 1 hour to the appropriate personnel, etc.)
  • Follow/adhere to all quality system requirements, and ensure quality workmanship
  • Maintain tools and company property according to company policies, and ensure tools are properly calibrated
  • Provide proper and adequate communication to internal and external customers
  • Understand and comply with company escalation processes and procedures
  • May be assigned to perform shop operations (including general machining, part inspections, assembly, and testing) and/or warehouse duties (such as receiving, inventory, and miscellaneous shop duties)
  • Act and perform as a role model to associates. Lead by example in all aspects of job requirements, including conducting self with a high degree of professionalism and of service delivery
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline required
  • Must be a reliable team player who consistently exhibits a professional demeanor
  • Able to read and interpret engine line diagrams and blueprints
  • Basic knowledge of medium speed diesel engines
  • Basic knowledge of pneumatic, PLC and electronic engine controls preferred
  • Able to troubleshoot and recommend appropriate customer solutions
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills, including ability to write technical reports (including specific work-related tasks performed), communicate complex technical issues in an easy-to-understand manner, and communicate effectively with internal and external customers
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, self-directed environment and to adapt to changing circumstances
  • Able to manage stressful internal and external customer situations with diplomacy
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, and attention to detail
  • Proficient level of computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Decision-making, problem resolution, analytical, and creative thinking skills
  • Strong customer service attitude with critical mindset
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Maintain valid driver’s license and qualify for company credit card
  • Able to travel (up to 75%) including weekends, evenings, and holidays and in emergency situations travel on short notice
  • This position requires access or potential access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information, which is Not Releasable to Foreign Nationals (NOFORN) data. Therefore, to meet NOFORN requirement, you will have to provide proof of US Citizenship and attest that you do not have dual citizenship. Acceptable proof of US Citizenship is a US Passport, US Birth Certificate or Naturalization Certificate.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing duties of the above jobs, the technician is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or other components; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear and smell. The associate frequently is required to sit and climb or balance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must have ability to regularly lift at least 35 pounds.
