Job Summary

In the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Harvard University, we research and teach how the collective behavior of molecules and cells forms the basis of life. We are driven by a passion for discovery and value collaborative approaches to scientific inquiry, where connections between people fuel interdisciplinary science and break boundaries across varied experimental systems. Against a backdrop of cutting-edge biological research, we work as a team of educators and mentors to inspire and train the next generation of scientists and global citizens. The Bellono Lab, has an opening for a Research Assistant I. The successful candidate will perform tasks related to the research project independently while under the guidance and mentorship of the supervisor.


Position Description

The Bellono Lab seeks a curious and collaborative individual to work at a unique intersection of cell biology, physiology, and animal behavior to understand molecular mechanisms that give rise to specialized organismal traits. The Research Assistant will study cell physiology in a variety of unusual model organisms (octopus, sharks, photosynthetic animals, and others). The primary responsibilities of this position are as follows:

  • Perform experiments using molecular biology histology, two-electrode voltage-clamp electrophysiology, and/or animal behavior
  • Work closely within the group, including attending lab meetings, interacting with collaborators, and potentially contributing to manuscripts as co-author

Basic Qualifications

College background or equivalent work experience, preferably in a related discipline


Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological or physical sciences
  • At least one year related work experience (relevant course work may count towards experience)
  • Hands-on work experience using molecular biology and biochemistry techniques
  • Self-motivated and ability to perform complex tasks in an independent and effective manner
  • Strong communication skills
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail

Working Conditions

This position does not offer hybrid remote/in person work flexibility. There is an expectation that employees be able to work in person in Cambridge, MA.


Additional Information

This is a one- year term position with possibility of extension contingent on performance and funding.
