Since 1931, The B. F. Saul Company has been engaged in the acquisition, renovation, construction, and management of residential property in the Washington Metropolitan area. The Residential division is currently comprised of four luxury properties: The Waycroft (Arlington, VA), Park Van Ness (Washington, DC), The Kennedy-Warren (Washington, DC) and Lyon Place (Arlington, VA). Coming soon are The Milton at Twinbrook Quarter (2024) and Hampden House (2025). The Lead Engineer is responsible for performing various tasks including Central Plant operations, split system heat pump repairs, building maintenance, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, cleaning and other duties as assigned. Attendance is essential to this position. The community is open 24/7, weekend work or overnight hours may be expected.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Operate, maintain and repair building equipment and systems, as well as to supervise all other personnel assigned to the Engineering Department in their conduct of operations, maintenance and repairs in accordance with generally accepted good engineering principles
  • To maintain a current DC Class-3 (or greater) Engineers certificate, CFC Universal certificate as well as a Pool operators certificate
  • To maintain the building in as safe and secure a condition as possible by performing maintenance safely and professionally, and by staying alert as to your surroundings including the presence of unauthorized people or materials
  • To conduct other assigned duties or work overtime as directed by the Director of Engineering

JOB REQUIREMENTS (SKILLS/ABILITIES):

  • The ability to read and speak the English language to proficiency as required understanding of verbal and written instructions from management, to give verbal and written instructions to employees, and to read and understand instructions and warnings printed on MSDS sheets and labels
  • The ability to conduct housekeeping and repairs in accordance with standard practices and methods (this includes no possessing allergies to standard cleaning chemicals, dust, pollen, or other agent which may prevent fulfilling the work required)
  • Available for Emergency On-Call

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • The ability to perform the repetitive and forceful motions required to conduct operations,
  • maintenance and repairs in every body posture (including but not limited to standing,
  • kneeling, lying, etc.)
  • The ability to climb ladders, crouch or completely extend the extremities while holding and
  • effectively using utensils and/or tools required to conduct repairs while on a ladder,
  • crouched, or fully extended
  • The ability to life and carry loads up to 50 pounds
  • Comfortable working with heights up to 25 feet
  • Required to stand for long periods of time
  • Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls, ? Walk or run for long periods of time ? Ability to twist body ? Ability to kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl
  • Use one or two hands to grasp, move, or assemble objects
  • Use fingers to grasp, move, or assemble very small objects
  • Make quick, precise adjustments to machine controls
  • Move two or more limbs together while remaining in place
  • React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet
  • See details of objects that are less than a few feet away
  • Hear sounds and recognize the difference between them
  • Use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects
  • See differences between colors, shades, and brightness
  • Determine the distance between objects
  • Adjust body movements or equipment controls to keep pace with speed changes or moving objects
  • Be physically active for long periods of time
  • Good, clear vision correctable to 20-20

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years engineering experience
  • Split system heat pump repair and central plant operation experience
  • Experience in residential community maintenance or related area preferred
  • Basic understanding and skills required for appliance repairs, carpentry, plumbing and electrical duties

EDUCATION / LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • DC 3rd class operating engineers license
  • CFC Universal certified and pool operator's license
