The Deputy Director will be accountable for supporting the successful operation of the New Business Development unit. They will directly support proposal development activities, including preparation, management, design, and writing proposals. This position is responsible for managing the unit financial information, developing strategic initiatives, managing unit’s human resources, and the alignment of organizational goals and mission with business development efforts. The Deputy Director will support the New Business Development Unit (NBDU) Senior Director in supervising IREX's business development efforts, including intelligence collection, positioning for opportunities, bids, proposals, fundraising, and other initiatives.

Your Background & Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s Preferred.
  • 12+ years of progressive experience with at least 7 or more years of progressive experience in international development.
  • Demonstrated success with business development initiatives including managing and/or writing proposals.
  • Direct professional experience in one or more of IREX’s thematic priorities.
  • Advanced experience with generating business with USAID, US Department of State, and other major donors.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Track record of managing and/or writing winning proposals.
  • Proven track record of working effectively with USG and other donors, partners.
  • Strong track record of success in positioning and capturing high-value, donor-funded programs.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and intercultural skills, including mentorship of staff.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan strategically and creatively to meet specified objectives.
  • Strong time and organizational management skills.
  • Speaking, reading and writing fluency in English.
  • You must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.

Your Daily Tasks

  • Support implementation of the organizational vision for the NBDU to be IREX’s lead driver of business development.
  • Support advancement of results in all efforts to ensure overall growth and to increase funding by bilateral funders.
  • Support supervision and ensure high quality in, all IREX initiatives, products, and services of NBDU, including but not limited to proposals and applications.
  • Support the marketing, intelligence collection, and opportunity shaping efforts of IREX through capture planning, guidance, and customer relationship development that includes travel to donor locations worldwide.
  • Coordinate relationships with external and internal partners.
  • Represent IREX externally to funders and the international development community; build and nurture those relationships.
  • Promote IREX's participation and represent IREX in conferences and industry functions.
  • Support the development and implementation of the annual business plan.
  • Lead the design, adjustment, and update of NBDU tools, processes, mechanisms, and systems.
  • Manage, design, and/or write proposals and concept notes.
  • Lead capture trips for priority proposals.
  • Track industry trends and key competitor results to increase IREX competitiveness.
  • Identify opportunities for strategic partnerships.
  • Support analysis of ROI of development efforts across organization.
  • Lead by example in promoting team culture that encourages risk-taking, innovation, an ethos of excellence, and a commitment to results.
  • Demonstrate management practices that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Motivate the NBDU team to work in step with IREX’s strategic goals and values.
  • Other support duties as needed.
