This position will start on May 29 (includes training). To be considered for this position, applicants will need to be fully available throughout the duration of the program. **If offered a position, ambassadors will be required to live on property.

What you get to do:
As a Camp Counselor you'll:

  • Responsible for the overall safety and well-being of campers in the park, overnight, or during off-site field trips
  • Teach and implement assigned camp curriculum in an effective and timely manner
  • Anticipate and willingly participate in designated camp duties: activity materials and equipment set-up and breakdown, classroom set-up and clean-up, team-building exercises, etc
  • Provide guidance to campers keeping them on task and behaving appropriately
  • Maintain knowledge of camp rules/operations, navigation of park or any field trip sites
  • Serve as a positive role model for campers and other park guests by adhering to company standards on wardrobe, conduct, safety, cleanliness and timeliness at all times
  • Carries out activities and teaches animal information as outlined in the camp curriculum. Can include role play, making crafts, singing camp songs, playing camp games, and reading stories
  • Assist in maintenance and inventory of all SeaWorld Camp supplies and equipment
  • Dines with campers
  • Perform general scheduling, clerical duties, paperwork, and office work pertaining to the operations of SeaWorld Camps
  • Participate in camper evaluations, follow-up paperwork and daily/weekly reports for SeaWorld Camp
  • Become familiar with each camp's roster to prepare in advance for upcoming campers' needs
  • Transporting campers to and from the airport as needed
  • Assists in the arrival and departure transportation of campers. Meets and assists parents and campers
  • Assists zoological staff with campers and work areas
  • Assist department with other duties as assigned


What it takes to succeed:
  • At least 19 years of age
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Education, recreation, early childhood development, marine biology, biology, or zoology majors preferred
  • Able to positively interact with guests and co-workers of all ages, different ethnic/cultural backgrounds and/or language, and individuals with special needs
  • Comfortable working with children 10-18 years of age and demonstrate resilience in a fast-paced, kid centric environment with minimal downtime
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills
  • Able to work near marine and terrestrial animals and crowds of people
  • Able to use mechanical devices such as microphone systems (hand held or headset), voice projector, computer, video projector, slide screen, television, equipment lift, and inflatable teaching tools
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including weekdays, weekends, evenings and holidays
  • Able to stand and walk outdoors in a variety of weather conditions for prolonged periods of time
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification required by the first day of work from American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or National Safety Council
  • A valid California driver's license required; visiting students and military must have a valid United States driver's license from state of residency and ability to provide a copy of the DMV report; Must be able to meet the requirements to drive SeaWorld vehicles
  • Consistently practices safe work habits including, but not limited to the use of personal protective equipment, lifting and reporting of unsafe situations
  • Able to lift or move up to 50 lbs
  • Willing to comply with and ensure team members comply with all SEA grooming guidelines and employment standards.
  • Able to successfully complete all legal, company and department training requirements to include but not limited to passing required tests and certifications within established timelines


Compensation:

First Time SeaWorld Counselors: $554.40 per week

Returning SeaWorld Counselors: $604.40 per week
