ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reviews project instructions and blueprints to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problem, and possible solutions such as part redesign, substitution of material or parts, or rearrangement of parts or subassemblies.
  • Drafts detail drawings or sketches to request parts fabrication by machine, PCB, sheet metal or shops for test fixtures.
  • Devises, fabricates, assembles and tests new or modified mechanical components or assemblies for products or to obtain data for development, standardization, and quality control.
  • Analyzes indicated and calculated test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives, and modifies or adjusts product/equipment to meet specifications.
  • Records test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or test method.
  • Develops models with electromagnetic field solvers: Primarily Ansys HFSS, CST Microwave studio. Secondarily, Ansys Q3D and SIwave. Simulates model with Agilent ADS or SPICE. Ensures the accuracy of models used for simulation.
  • Perform and develop VNA/TDR measurement techniques to validate models and simulations.
  • Ability to use design tools such as Ansys HFSS, Altium Designer, PLTS, Visual Studio, MPLAB, Atmel Studio, CREO, SolidWorks, SpaceClaim, and AutoCAD.
  • Perform and develop VNA/TDR measurement techniques to validate models and simulations.
  • Collaborate with package, PCB, and silicon designers to complete measurement-simulation correlation projects.
  • Feedback learning from measurement-simulation correlation investigations to improve best practices for modeling and simulation.
  • Understand and apply transmission-line and electromagnetic-field theory; VNA/TDR measurements; statistical simulators for serial data (SerDes) links; dual-Dirac and other jitter models and insertion loss, return loss, cross talk, BER, jitter, and statistical eye diagrams.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES  Requires knowledge typically acquired through:

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree in engineering or physics from a four-year college or university, technical or vocational school.
  • Three to twelve years related experience or training, and / or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge in power, microwave, numerical field solver, and electromagnetic transmission theories.
  • Ability to use design tools such as Ansys HFSS, Altium Designer, PLTS, Visual Studio, MPLAB, Atmel Studio, CREO, SolidWorks, SpaceClaim, and AutoCAD
  • Experience programming with MATLAB and Spice, and hands on experience of Time Domain Reflectometers (TDR), VNA and skew/jitter measurements.
  • Experience with PCIe, Fiber Channel, InfiniBand, Ethernet, Mil / Aero Specifications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills that demonstrate the ability to express complex technical concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and groups of employees.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
