About our group:

The Seagate Research Rapid Prototype Shop provides a wide array of prototyping services at the highest level of quality supporting functional entities across all of Seagate world wide. The shop offers both design / CAD services & machine shop capability.

About the role - you will:

  • Handle raw material and inspection of completed parts.
  • Manufacture parts to print
  • Assemble completed components.
  • Set-up and operate the manual/cnc toolroom machines
  • Read and understand the blueprints and shop work requests
  • Maintain machines
  • Do 5S activities
  • Oversee quality inspection with calipers, micrometers, Fowler height gages
  • This is an R&D environment in which you will produce 1-19 parts, no production

Your experience includes:

  • Ability to apply skills learned in the classroom to situations in the workplace.
  • Ability to understand dimensions and tolerances and a good working knowledge of shop mathematics.
  • Ability to do basic programming in Mastercam or related CAD/CAM packages.
  • A good understanding of basic trigonometry.
  • A good understanding of basic geometric tolerancing.
  • Must be able to understand directions in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Have effective problem-solving skills.


Knowledge of various industrial machines including:

  • CNC equipment: Makino and Haas VMC 3 axis and 5 axis machines
  • Makino U3 wire edm machine
  • Both manual/cnc mills and lathes
  • Sheet metal brakes and notchers (manual) and hydraulic shear
  • Toolroom Inspection equipment
  • Calipers, micrometers and precision bore gages
  • Good Windows based PC skills
  • 2 Year technical degree in machining or tool & die recommended or work equivalent.
