Job Description
The Auditor/Internal Controls Specialist consultant will work with the project team to provide support for financial statement reporting, compilation, and audit remediation.
Responsibilities
  • Perform federal accounting research and analysis. This requires knowledge of federal accounting general ledger accounts and impact of transactional activity on the financial statements.
  • Provide support to update the Annual Financial Report (AFR) and all components included in the report.
  • Provide expertise on federal financial statement guidance including OMB A-136 circular and FASABStatement of Federal Financial Accounting Standards (SFFAS).
  • Assist to compile, prepare, and review quarterly financial statements and related notes.
  • Prepare and issue requests for data calls to support various disclosures.
  • Perform various quarterly trial balance/financial statement reviews to detect irregularities such as Abnormal Balances or Tie Point errors, perform root cause analysis, and make recommendations for corrections.
  • Review monthly and quarterly journal voucher (JV) packages to ensure compliance.
  • Provide assistance and support to the audit readiness teams as needed regarding areas impacting the financial reports.
  • Assist in review of Notifications of Findings and Recommendations (NFRs).
  • Assist in review, update, and development of Corrective Action Plans (CAPs).
  • Participate in walk throughs of quarterly and year-end financial reporting key controls and processes.
Minimum Requirements
  • Able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret Clearance.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field.
  • One of the following professional certifications: CPA, CISA, CIA, CGFM, or CDFM.
  • 6+ years of progressive, relevant DoD financial statement audit and/or compilation experience.
  • Experience supporting one or more of the following: audit response, audit remediation, internal controls, financial processes, and/or accounting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Statements of Federal Financial Accounting Standards (SFFAS), and/or relevant OMB policies for State or Federal Government agencies.
  • Experienced in researching the Department of Defense Financial Management Regulations (DoD FMR), and Treasury Financial Manual (TFM).
  • Must be detail oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Capability to work in a team environment, as well as independently.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a positive relationship with customers and other vendors.
Preferred Skills
  • Demonstrated experience in SAP, Oracle Federal Financials, or other relevant financial systems environments.
  • Experience utilizing Defense Departmental Reporting System (DDRS).
  • Experience collaborating with Defense Finance Accounting Service (DFAS).
