A brief overview

The Director / Sr. Director of Process Research and Development is strongly experienced in Solid Phase Peptide Synthesis, specifically in Boc and Fmoc chemistry; and has some experience in Mixed Phase Peptide Synthesis and Solution Phase Peptide Synthesis. He/she will be responsible for supervising developmental synthesis and purification of research and pre-clinical grade products, including new API candidates, and for improving existing processes to increase efficiency and reproducibility. The Director of Process Research and Development drives development activities with creativity, enthusiasm, and expertise in peptide chemistry. Their knowledge of GMP manufacturing processes will allow him or her to design and execute processes easily transferred to cGMP production. Attention to details, excellent recording of procedures and good communication skills facilitate the transfer of these processes to production.

What you will do

  • Independently plan and execute/ supervise developmental synthesis and purification of research and pre-clinical products
  • Improve processes for existing products to improve efficiency and reproducibility
  • Supervise and guide staff to safely achieve defined deliverables according to timelines
  • Document analytical results for the benefit of production and other departments
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and equipment for synthesis and purification, and implement their use in R & D
  • Assure the good organization and housekeeping of the R & D department work areas
  • Write process descriptions and transfer developed manufacturing strategies to production
  • Train staff and evaluate their performance
  • Write analytical reports and summaries
  • Support production in troubleshooting problems in existing processes
  • Contribute to the maintenance and troubleshooting of R & D instrumentation and
  • equipment

Qualifications

  • PhD in Chemistry with 2 years of peptide chemistry experience or
  • Master's degree in chemistry along with at least 5 years of peptide chemistry experience
  • Hands on experience in mixed phase peptide synthesis
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in peptide analysis (RP-HPLC) and purification (preparative RP-HPLC, IEC-HPLC)
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in peptide synthesis in either industry or academia
  • At least 2 years proven leadership in a managerial position of a production group
  • Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods
  • Thorough understanding of peptide synthesis and peptide purification
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Basic computer knowledge, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to effectively organize, multitask, and work in a fast-paced, deadline driven work environment
  • Ability to communicate in a proactive and solution-focused manner, including keeping management aware of potential issues
  • Detail oriented with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems
  • Ability to work independently and manage one's time
  • Communicate effectively and ability to function well in a team environment

Base Salary Range: $126,000 - $165,000

Placement of new hires in these wage ranges is based on several factors including education, skill sets, experience, and training.
