Your job is more than a job.The Occupational Therapy Assistant Certified implements occupational therapy program which includes treatment in relationship to the professional, technical and administrative operations of the Occupational Therapy department. Provides competent patient care to the developmentally, physically, and/or mentally disabled assigned patients in order to promote learning and/or restoration of functional abilities.GENERAL DUTIESTreatment:Provides occupational therapy treatment to a wide range of diagnostic and age groups complying with departmental protocol/procedures.Adheres to precautions as they pertain to the diagnoses or conditions.Conducts the treatment session by providing the appropriate behavioral management and structure to the treatment environment, utilizing several treatment alternatives for goal achievement and modifying the treatment program in response to changes in the patient's skill level and/or environment.Begins discharge planning during admission to the occupational therapy program, considering patient/family training, equipment needs and follow-up issues.Teaches the patients and family members occupational therapy skills and techniques to facilitate the patient's functional abilities both during the hospitalization and within home environment.Fabricates splints and adaptive equipment (to include training) as medically directed for the patient's use based upon their disability and rehabilitative needs.Documentation:Prepares written reports and departmental documents in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.Completes daily documentation of treatments and procedures and patient information.LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONSBasic Life Support Health Care Provider American Heart AssociationCurrent license to practice as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant Louisiana State Board of Medical ExaminersThis job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this department.
