Position Summary

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the troubleshooting and repairing the mechanical equipment throughout the site using personal decision-making to insure minimal disruption to the production process. This department is scheduled to provide services to the entire facility 7 days a week. A Mechanic may be required to work in one or more plant areas, doing one or multiple assignments during any given work-shift. Call-ins are a requirement of this position. This position requires a high level of self-management, punctuality, good attendance, and the ability to adjust to various assignments.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Repair, replacement and installation of equipment including pumps, screw conveyors, rotary valves, relief valves, motors, conveyors, and its auxiliaries like pipes, flanges, gaskets, mechanical seals, filters.
  • Align, disassemble and rebuild production equipment such as reciprocating compressors, steam turbines, bearing members, gearboxes and pumps.
  • Utilization of micrometers and calipers to repair equipment; operation of drill press, hydraulic press, pedestal grinder, mill equipment and lathes.
  • Work independently or in small groups to install, repair and replace equipment, including pumps, valves, motors, and other process equipment.
  • Work independently or in pairs to repair equipment at work station. Uses a variety of handheld tools which must be grasped manually, applying as much as 100 pounds of torque to disassemble mechanical units. Tools may be manual, electrical or pneumatic in nature, requiring adequate grip for safe operation.
  • Walk/Stand upon a variety of surfaces to transport materials, equipment and tools between work areas. Required to stand approximately 5-6 hours per day. Standing/walking takes place upon concrete, asphalt, metal grated and diamond steel plated walkways and stairways. Required to climb as high as 5 flights of stairs 3-4 times a day to reach work area. Must be able to kneel, crouch, or crawl to reach restricted access work areas a minimum of 1-2 times daily.
  • Work in varying environmental conditions. Required to work primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions. Outside temperatures may range from -32oF to an excess of 100oF. Indoor temperatures can be 110oF or higher.


Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent and/or technical education on industrial maintenance or mechanic
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in position of a maintenance mechanic in a manufacturing/industrial environment or completed technical education on industrial maintenance or mechanic.
  • Must be able to read and write
  • Must possess competence in basic mathematics
  • Experience in troubleshooting and repair of the mechanical and equipment throughout the site.
  • Knowledgeable in types and uses of valves
  • The ability to change/repair and align pumps.
  • Experience in precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers to repair equipment; and operating a drill press, hydraulic press, pedestal grinder, mill equipment and lathes.
  • Familiar with reading and working from blueprints and/or single line drawings.
  • Experience with maintaining high speed rotating equipment, such as turbines and compressors (preferred)
  • Ability to align, troubleshoot, disassemble and rebuild production equipment such as reciprocating compressors, steam turbines and centrifugal pumps (preferred)
