Maxar has a near-term opening for a Lead Cloud Architect to join our Northern Virginia-based team.  Maxar? is looking for a dedicated individual to provide technical leadership of a critical ground segment integration effort for our organization.

The Lead Cloud Architect will be responsible for assisting in the development and management of the ground segment cloud architecture within the client space and will be required to provide guidance to program-level software architects and developers. This person will also serve as a direct technical interface to the customer during reviews, briefings, and technical exchanges/demonstrations. The communication and collaboration with the customer as well as with other engineering disciplines is required to ensure the application architectures support the client program's needs. The Lead Cloud Architect leads the analysis of issues that directly affect the system architecture. The successful candidate will have a systems level approach to resolving complex programs and the ability to convince leadership that the proposed solution is best for the mission (including program cost and schedule as well as the technical solution). The individual will work with client executives in the development of CONOPS for new systems, providing strategic input and planning for applications architecture and design. The Lead Cloud Architect will assist in the tracking of key roadmaps and deliverables.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain & maintain a TS/SCI clearance.

  • Master of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mathematics, System Engineering, or a STEM-related field.

  • Minimum of 12 years of software development experience with a focus on cloud architectures

  • Strong understanding of architecture design principles and governance.

  • Prior experience developing requirements, defining system interfaces, and supporting system level integration.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Experience with software architecture tools and techniques, including DevSecOps and Agile processes and practices.

  • Experience with a variety of messaging and communication protocols.

  • Ability to create an architectural vision, communicate the vision, and map out a plan to execute towards the vision.

  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills; ability to decompose, document, and communicate architecture rationale, approach, design and governance.

  • Possess an understanding of digital engineering principles including Model Based System Engineering and DevOps/DevSecOps pipelines.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with and communicate the customer, all levels of management and with individual contributors on the program team.

  • Ability to work across disciplines to find balanced approaches to technical issues.

  • Deep technical knowledge of the IT Development stack and DEVOPS Pipeline for key production systems running on the client infrastructure.

  • Expertise with DOD/IC customer security accreditation processes.

  • Prior experience architecting, designing, developing, and testing data management systems.

  • Prior experience porting existing software to new platforms and architectures.

  • Experience with Agile Development Methodologies.

  • Must be willing to travel on occasion to customer, subcontractor, and other Maxar locations, as necessary.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Active/current TS/SCI clearance. Preference will be given to candidate that are fully cleared.

  • Experience working with satellite ground systems (SW + HW).

  • AWS DevOps Certification, AWS Developer Certification, and / or AWS Solutions Architect Certification.

  • Scrum Master Certification.

  • Languages, Tools, Methodologies, and Applications include:

    • Angular, BitBucket, GITHub, Junit, RedHat, Ansible Tower, C/C++, Gradle, Linux, SecDevOps, API, CloudWatch, Hibernete, Maven, SpringMVCC, Artifactory, CSS, HTML, Mongo, Swagger, AWS Suite, Eclipse, Java, Node.js, TomCat, Azure, ELK Stack, JavaScript, Powershell, Unix, Bash, GIT, Jenkins, Python, VMWare, Atlassian collaboration tools (Jira, Confluence, etc.)

  • Experience working major DoD and Intelligence Community programs.

  • Experience working with USSF / Space Development Agency and SATCOM missions.

  • Experience with Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE), including prior experience using Cameo.

Our salary ranges are market-driven and set to allow for flexibility. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidate’s unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience. The range for this position is:

$155,000.00 - $259,000.00 annually.


 

Additionally, this position is incentive eligible with a target based on contribution, company performance, and/or individual results achieved; the specific incentive plan and target amount will be determined based on the role and breadth of contributions.
