Hours of work: Full-Time position with hours Monday – Friday 9:00-5:00 PM; 9/80 Flex Schedule eligible
Travel: 25% Air and Vehicle Travel to manufacturing facilities


The Process Controls Engineer is responsible for process control engineering and software development associated with carbon manufacturing. The Process Control Engineer is responsible for enhancement of process controls and human interfaces in manufacturing facilities. The Process Control Engineer will develop hardware and software controls for capital improvements and new process plants, as well as develop controls engineering standards for process controls and interfaces. The Process Controls Engineer will provide support to Facilities engineering for capital projects requiring controls hardware and software. The Process Controls Engineer will engage and lead internal and external engineering and vendor resources to ensure compliance with engineering standards and consistency in controls and interfaces across production lines and facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to)

  • Specify, develop, implement, and service control systems including logic and HMI systems at the manufacturing facilities for new projects. Candidate will work with multiple types of PLC and DCS systems, including but not limited to, Rockwell/Allen Bradley, Honeywell TDC and Experion, and others. Candidate will provide expertise to develop controls and instrumentation packages for capital projects, interface and lead external resources including contract engineering firms, electrical and other contractors, and follow them through completion, working with internal project management resources to ensure delivery of well-designed and functional control systems
  • Develop and maintain controls software for production lines. Consult with plant operations, maintenance, and controls staff, as applicable to verify that plant modifications conform to company standards for user interface design and control logic best practices. Develop new programs and features to improve plant operations and process monitoring
  • Coordinate with Process Engineers and Project Managers in the generation of project drawing packages, including review of P&IDs and instrumentation and controls specifications to verify that the selected equipment will accomplish the process design goals. Ensure design hardware is in conformance with project requirements and that developed software conforms to hardware design
  • Develop, propagate, and modify as needed, standards for controls logic and human interface programs for the manufacturing facilities. These standards should be compliant with industry best practices. Work with plant staff, project managers, and external resources to ensure compliance with these standards
  • Develop, specify, and maintain company assets used for process data collection, retrieval, and archiving, specifically about PI process data recording systems, as well as other systems that may be in use at the various facilities
  • Work with Facilities Engineering, manufacturing plant staff, and outside resources to ensure that new controls systems and modifications to existing systems are appropriately and completely documented and updated as necessary

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.), or equivalent from four-year college or university is required (Degree in electrical or chemical engineering is preferred)
  • A Master's degree (M.A.) or equivalent is preferred
  • 7-10 years of programming Allen Bradley and Honeywell DCS products/systems is required
  • 7-10 years of experience with Microsoft office is required
  • Experience setting up and maintaining PI system hardware and software is preferred
