The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for an Electrical Technician (WG-2805-10) to work at the 11th Civil Engineer Squadron located at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling Air Force Base located in Washington D.C.

In this position you will install, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain various electrical systems, controls, and equipment.

Salary Range
$33.61-39.26 Hourly

2. Position requires the ability to discern colors and contrast.

3. Shift work may be required.

4. The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license will be required for the position.

5. This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions. IAW, DoDI 3020-42, Defense Continuity Programs.

6. Emergency overtime may be required.

7. May work with hazardous materials such as asbestos or accumulated waste. Employee will be required to wear protective clothing and gear on these occasions.

8. The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: Makes repairs from work stands and other hard-to-reach places. Must stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, stretch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment that weigh up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts items that weigh over 40 pounds with assistance from other workers.

9. This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Installs, repairs or replaces, modifies, loads, tests and performs preventative maintenance on new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, panels, switches, breakers, and controls located in and near installation buildings and structures. Works on secondary distribution lines and circuits used to supply distribution panels, switchgears, power and control circuits, electrical intrusion alarm and fire alarm systems; emergency warning systems; cathodic protection systems; lightning protection systems; street and parking lot lighting; high intensity lighting systems; Light Emitting Diodes; and related equipment. Tests and maintains gasoline and diesel generators for proper electrical output. Trains and/or guides lower grade or lesser experienced employees as required. Will drive to and from various locations on base to perform duties.

2. Troubleshoots problem areas and inspects for defective equipment and faulty wiring. Works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and maintenance and repair manuals to determine the necessary and proper repairs and/or replacements.

3. Uses and maintains various types of hand and/or power tools, such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, soldering irons, cable pullers, hydraulic benders, and pipe threading machines. In addition, uses a wide variety of test equipment including test lamps, multimeters, circuit analyzers, circuit breaker testers, voltage recording meters, meggers, watt meters, ohmeters, and ammeters.

4. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA’s)

1. Knowledge of safety regulations, National Electrical Code, National Fire Protection Association standards, practices, and procedures.

2. Knowledge of technical practices in order to plan, lay out, install, modify, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of complete electrical systems.

3. Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and instruments used in shop and trade practices, and of electrical equipment, i.e., test lamps, multimeters, circuit analyzers, circuit breaker testers, voltage recording meters, meggers, watt meters, ohmeters, and ammeters.

4. Skill in using and maintaining hand tools such as, screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, strippers, cable pullers, drills, soldering irons, and manual or power conduit benders and threaders.

5. Skill in troubleshooting and tracing hard-to-locate defects or problems.

6. Ability to use electrical drawings, blueprints, engineering drawings, and wiring diagrams and to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain various electrical systems, controls, and equipment without more than normal supervision.
