Job Description Summary

The Women’s Asst. Rugby Coach is responsible for the recruitment, selection and operation of the team in conjunction with the Head Coach and Captains for the fall and spring seasons. The Asst. Coach is required to schedule and be present during all practices and matches (as determined by the Head Coach), ensuring all safety standards as defined by National Collegiate Rugby, Rugby Northeast and Bentley University are met in full.

Essential Duties

  • Make appropriate decisions regarding the safety and playing ability of team members.

  • Act in the capacity of the Head Coach when necessary.

  • Attend all practices and matches in accordance with Head Coach, Bentley, National Collegiate Rugby, and Rugby Northeast guidelines and standards.

  • Represent Bentley University in a manner that is consistent with the mission of the University.

  • Along with the Head Coach, ensure that all team members are in good academic standing, have filed the appropriate paperwork (Health statement, Liability and Indemnity Waiver, Anti-Hazing Form)

  • Be available to team members to counsel on matters relating to Women’s Rugby and team morale.

  • Meet as needed with the Head Rugby Coach

Other Duties

  • Represent Bentley in a professional way as host and visitor to other teams.

  • Train with student-athletes who may need additional time or individual coaching to maintain and improve their abilities.

  • Communicate with individuals who contact Bentley about the program and answer inquiries as needed via e-mail, telephone, or mail.

  • Assist with other administrative coaching duties.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • 1-3 years prior coaching or playing experience with a competitive varsity rugby team.

  • Demonstrated leadership and coaching abilities with a commitment to developing and maintaining a positive and productive playing environment.

  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse groups. Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical and decision-making skills.

  • Posses or be willing to attain certification as a coach, minimally the Level 1 Coach designation.

  • First Aid/CPR certification.

  • Ability to work and/or travel to include evening and weekends.

  • Must hold and maintain a valid, unrestricted United States driver’s license, with an insurable driving history as determined by Bentley’s insurance carrier.

Work Environment

  • Asst. Coach must be present at all practices (as determined by the Head Coach) and matches, many of which occur on weekends or late afternoons.

  • Asst. Coach is present at all practices and matches as determined by the Head Coach. Must be able to effectively demonstrate and instruct technique and skill to team members.

  • Work 6-10 hours per week between the months of late August and April

Physical Demands

  • Physical skill and effort is very important for this position. Every practice involves physical effort whether it be demonstrating a skill or conditioning.
