The Medical Assistant (MA) provides clinical and administrative support to ensure the efficient operation of the Bentley University Health Center. The MA supports clinicians and patients through a variety of tasks related to patient management, organization and communication. With guidance from clinic leadership, the MA position balances the clinical and administrative duties of the day for the optimum functioning of the Health Center team to address the needs of Bentley students seeking care.
Essential Duties
Clinical
Perform phlebotomy and other laboratory procedures
Obtain vital signs
Provide injections
Administer nebulizer treatments
Assist clinician during sensitive exams
Ensure all clinic rooms and emergency bags are stocked appropriately
Perform weekly medication inventory and EHR updates
Perform point-of-care testing including quality control checks
Maintain eye wash stations
Administrative
Greet patients at the front desk to address their presenting concern
Check patients in at the front desk and assist in pre-visit form completion and insurance review
Answer phone calls, voicemail and messages
Schedule appointments by phone and in-person
Help process lab requisitions and ensure appropriate delivery to Quest
Enter manually and scan information into the electronic health record (EHR)
Other Duties
Participate in activities related to the Health Center’s accredited status by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).
Contribute to the implementation of departmental and institutional goals.
Participate in departmental and campus-wide programming and initiatives to promote Bentley’s strategic goals of Diversity and Inclusive Excellence.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Medical Assistant certification
2+ years of experience working in health care
Phlebotomy experience
Strong customer service skills
Positive attitude, team player, flexible
Working Conditions
Laboratory: Potential exposure to communicable diseases through direct contact and through the handling of biological specimens and needles and syringes. Risk minimized by strict adherence to OSHA regulations and office procedures.
Front desk/Clinical: Requires sitting, standing and walking. May require some lifting of equipment or boxes and assisting a patient to stand or walk.
