Description: Job Summary

The General Staff Dentist is responsible for the delivery of high quality, cost-effective oral health care, including providing diagnosis and treatment of teeth, gums, and related oral structures and providing preventative and corrective services.

Position Description

  • Diagnoses and treats diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth, gums, and related oral structures and provides preventive and corrective services.
  • Completes fillings (amalgam, composite) and single crowns.
  • Provides periodic exams for all the hygiene patients.
  • Triages, evaluates, and treats emergency patients.
  • Advises and instructs patients regarding preventive dental care, the causes and treatment of dental problems, and oral health care services. Communicate and build a strong foundation of trust and respect between you and your patients.
  • Assess treatment planning options and discuss with patients to work cooperatively with HDC dental specialists to provide the best possible care for patients.
  • Refers to HDC specialists for multiple crowns, implants, dentures, orthodontics, and periodontal disease.
  • Provides same-day add-on services.
  • Utilizes HDC electronic health record (EHR) system, axiUm, for all clinical documentation.
  • Clinical documentation and treatment notes are completed on the same day via EHR system.
  • Patient billing and documentation is submitted on the same day via EHR system.
  • Partners with HDC Leadership to identify trends to improve clinical care and patient experience.
  • Partners with Patient Services staff on patient scheduling and communication.
  • Work is performed on site in a clinical setting.
  • Complies with federal and state regulations (OSHA, HIPAA, DPH, AAMI, ANSI).
  • Contributes to the mission and vision of HSDM and models the School's core values in all facets of the work. Promotes a customer service environment, including providing support to multiple constituents including faculty, staff, and students.
  • Contributes to a culture of inclusivity and respect.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.


Basic Qualifications

  • DDS/DMD licensed and eligible for licensure in Massachusetts.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to maintain effective rapport with patients, dentists, students, and other staff members.
  • Demonstrated skills in effective communication, diplomacy and teaching.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work on-site, full-time.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to successfully pass a comprehensive background check at hire.

  • Experience in a Dental group practice setting.
  • Commitment to high quality, cost-effective health care and the principles of group practice.
  • Experience in quality assurance/improvement, utilization management, performance supervision, and evaluation.

  • The primary work location for this position is Boston, MA. Per the University payroll policy all work (including remote) must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business. In order to be on Harvard payroll, you must reside in a University payroll registered state.
