Leidos Health Solutions Performance and Readiness Division currently has an opening for a Research Scientist to work within the Naval Health Research Center’s Warfighter Performance Department. The Research Scientist will work independently to support human subject data collection and large-scale data analysis for the purpose of understanding the physical and physiological aspects of military training post-childbirth. Approval of project deliverables will be obtained from project leads, manager, and government customer.

Work will be primarily located at the Camp Pendleton military installation. Some meetings and data collection events will occur regularly at other locations throughout San Diego County.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct research in laboratory and field settings in the areas of sleep and exercise physiology, strength and performance, body composition measurement, and cognition.

  • Conduct research participant recruitment, scheduling, and follow-up using effective, appropriate, and professional communication.

  • Manage and process large data sets containing accelerometry, heart rate, and other physiological measurements.

  • Develop custom code for data analysis in Python or MATLAB.

  • Conduct operation and day-to-day maintenance of research equipment including various wearable sensors, data collection computers, force plates, and other measurement devices.

  • Communicate and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary research group that includes engineers, physiologists, medical doctors, and active duty military.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required for the customer research mission.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Master’s degree in engineering, exercise physiology or similar from an accredited US college or university, or international university of equivalent standard, and 2 years of related experience.

  • Completion of basic technical coursework including multivariable calculus, statics, and dynamics.

  • Completion of coursework in the physical sciences including exercise physiology, biology, human anatomy, and biomechanics.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in fast-paced environments.

  • Demonstrate strong programming skills in MATLAB or Python.

  • Willing to travel, up to 10% time, as needed for customer-directed requirements.

  • Willing and able to work onsite at the military installations in San Diego (primary location at Camp Pendleton with alternate locations at Naval Health Research Center at Naval Base Point Loma, and Naval Medical Research and Training Command)

  • Willing and able to work non-regular hours, as well as extended hours, such as overnight and on weekends as needed for customer projects.

  • Hold US Citizenship and obtain and maintain a SECRET government security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Secret Clearance.

  • Experience working with military personnel at a military facility.

  • Experience with wearable sensor technologies and advances data analysis techniques.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $65,000.00 - $117,500.00
