Position Summary


The Rheinstrom Hill Outreach Coordinator will help with outreach and education efforts with the local schools and the general public, focusing on Audubon’s conservation priorities and projects that are happening at Rheinstrom Hill Audubon Center & Sanctuary.


With the direction of the Center Director, the coordinator will develop, design, recruit, schedule, and lead the educational aspects of the Rheinstrom Hill Audubon Center & Sanctuary. Topics of concentration will be focused on avian and forest ecology and conservation, Additionally, the coordinator will be assisting in the collection of visitor use information and informal messaging to those visitors through interpretive materials. This role will partner with the Land Steward, Technicians, Grounds and Maintenance and Education staff as needed.


This is a five-month full time seasonal position starting in May 2024 through September 2024. Housing at Rheinstrom Hill Audubon Center and Sanctuary is available.


Compensation:


$16.00-$18.00 / hour

Essential Functions


  • Work with the Center Director to develop comprehensive education programs focused on Rheinstrom Hill Audubon Center & Sanctuary’s conservation and stewardship programs; targeting volunteers, the general public, and K-12 school-aged students.

  • Ensure all school programs meet or exceed statewide standards, local school district curriculum requirements, and Audubon guidelines/standards.

  • Cultivate and maintain productive working relationships with all partnering organizations, agencies, groups, and individuals participating in the programs.

  • Develop and deliver effective verbal and written presentations/promotion that contribute to outreach for all target groups.

  • Track progress on all project-specific education and outreach goals.

  • Other duties as needed/assigned.


  • Qualifications and Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Community Outreach, Environmental Studies or a similar field required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of educational program design and assessment, knowledge of conservation issues and ability to articulate them and inspire participation.

  • Demonstrated ability to partner with key stakeholders such as community, school, and agency personnel.

  • Ability to think strategically and creatively, while managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines

  • Strong organizational and relationship-building skills, excellent attention to detail.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and communication skills, and ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.

  • Self-motivated and willing to work in a flexible, non-structured environment.

  • Comfort in speaking publicly and managing small and large groups, both indoors and outdoors.

  • Proficient in computer and technology skills and associated applications, including Microsoft Office suite.]

  • Valid driver’s license required and a reliable personal vehicle for outreaches.

  • Current First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain it.

  • Ability to traverse rough or uneven terrain, climb moderate hills, and carry up to 35lbs for outdoor programming with or without accommodation.
