Overview

This position is responsible for managing the work from multiple machines in the Machine Shop.

The incumbent will complete all secondary and “finishing” operations to the parts and send them to the next level.

This person is responsible for setting up the Blohm surface grinder to produce parts as directed by the schedule or planning department.



Responsibilities

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Effectively manages production schedule in order to ensure timely delivery of parts.
  • Must to be able to multi-task at different operations in the machine shop at one time.
  • Set-up and operate the Electro Polishing machine maintaining the correct temperature on the machine, cleaning the parts thoroughly to insure quality of the parts coming off the machine and keeping the work flowing through the work cell.
  • Complete secondary operations on the parts that come off the manufacturing equipment in the machine shop to the blueprint specifications.
  • Roughing and finishing of dies and die supports utilizing the die profile equipment.
  • Set-up and run the Blohm surface ginder, verifying parts are coming off the machine within specifications.
  • Responsible for ensuring all parts are produced to blueprint or Tipper Tie specification before releasing to the next step.
  • Responsible for reordering all supplies needed for the area in a timely matter. Adding items to the reordering system to make sure parts are made on time with the correct supplies.
  • Inspecting all raw materials to make sure it meets Tipper Tie standards before storing the material. Contacting Lead/Supervisor if material is not to specifications.
  • Participates in process improvement initiatives. May work as a team with other department employees on process improvement projects.
  • Complete any and all preventive maintenance on machines.


Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience:

  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Must be proficient with calipers, micrometers and height gages.
  • Proficient in working with decimals, fractions and blueprints.
  • Must be able to convert fractions to decimals.
  • At least 6 months experience in a machine shop or equivalent.
  • Ability to perform a variety of production-related tasks, such as:
    • setting up a NC surface grinder, deburring, tapping, bead blasting, tumbling, running a drill press, and stamping parts with pin stamper.
  • Good oral and written communications skills.
  • Must have a good understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.

Ability to perform the following activities for long periods of time: standing, stooping, bending, and sitting.

Utilization of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory while working in the manufacturing area, including safety glasses, face shields, gloves, safety shoes and any other necessary safety equipment as assigned.

The noise level is at a moderate level. As part of the Company’s hearing conservation program, this position will be required to undergo a standard hearing test upon hire, and annually thereafter.
